There’s another good how to on Ratwell. I will find that link. It is a relatively straightforward and very satisfying job when you get the heating sorted.

    Shut up Haynes!

  7. Found my album of big airfix kit we bought 3 years ago...looks like the end of two levers at the back there. Might need to get that out from under the dash for a coat of looking at!.. now to figure out how to get two cables onto one lever guess the one with a look looks over the one with a "proper" end..[IMG]

Don’t the two red sit in a bracket with two slots?

  10. Have a look at the lever mech behind the dash. Is another one hiding?

  11. Well its funny what you find going through old photos... forgot we've got the ambulance fans in those ducts at the front too... must try and remember where the wires for those were tucked.an maybe automate the snail fan instead of that switch... these jobs just grow!

  12. Think it must be or only half of it there .

  13. The bit that is poking out at the bottom directly under the nut looks like the back part of a lever but there’s nothing sticking out at the top, could’ve been snapped off

  14. Going to have to get it out and have a proper look. .. and fight the old cables out of their duct . And get new back in. ...

  15. On the crossovers - you are missing a second red lever - I expect the actual control plate part is still there on the bracket behind the dash, but the front lever arm is missing - if you look through the slot with the red lever you will probably see the connecting socket part of the other red lever arm just sitting there waiting for the lever to be slipped in. Easy to get replacement front levers ( early type = metal with rubber knob, not all plastic ).
    As for the cables -
Firstly the blue lever controls through a set of bar linkages the front fresh air flaps - nothing to do there.
There will be three cables coming up to behind the dash. Two come from the heat exchangers - and they both slip onto the back of the first red lever control plate. If you have the correct cables, they will have different termination ends as one slips all the way over the control plate bar, and the second one is held on using the retaining spring clip, keeping both cables held onto the rod. Thus moving this lever opens or closes both heat exchangers.
The third cable is a short cable that goes onto the other red lever bracket, and then down onto the totem pole central flap control. Moving this lever opens and closes the totem pole flap to either divert air to the footwell, or up onto the screen.
There is a final cable (No 4), which connects from the totem pole flap down under the van to the central diverter that sends warm air into the floor vent behind and between the front seats.

  17. ^this. Fresh air (blue) is a mechanical linkage - no cables involved.

Pull the end pieces off the two levers you've got. Is there another similar-looking stub lever hiding somewhere?

  18. That sounds like the badger.

Now to find a replacement end.
Think I got the right cables one just has a wire ring.
Have another go after work tomorrow.... before it gets too dark

  19. On arms that operate two cables, one cable end has a metal hook which goes through the end of the lever, then a ring ended cable goes over it on the other side, followed by a circlip, as in the microfiche pic.

  20. If you've got the remnants of the cable and cable end, the brass centre from a small electrical choc-block makes quite a good fix. Just clamp the bits together.
