Thinking of selling for a T5 (sorry)

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Frannie, Jan 28, 2017.

  1. I'm not sure there is anything to be sorry about, if it no longer works for what you want to do then it is time to move on.

I'd probably get shot of mine if I was allowed to by the wife ... she won't so I am going to stick a Subaru engine in it.

  2. I've toyed with the idea of selling mine and putting cash towards a California with the 5th seat (how much!) or even a Vauxhall Vivaro based one which are at least 10k cheaper with the same bits inside but going to see how we all feel after touring for a couple of weeks up the west coast of Scotland this year in ours.

The bay has given us some great memories already with our 3 kids but now we also have 2 small dogs we inherited so if we can't do longer trips like the above it might be time to get something bigger but can't see me ever going motorhome route rather than campervan.

Hi @Geordie this was the little lake at the camp site. The site was nearly empty but very nice. :)

  5. To sell or not to sell is not in question is it. The reason to sell is financial as the van is costing too much to own, The good memories of ownership are there but its time to sell the van on to someone who has the means to restore and maintain it.

These points were made at the outset.

Whether a new van is on the horizon is a separate issue to be thought about after the van is sold and the money situation is clear.

  6. T5 are overrated I've had from new for work that round badge on the front is worth the most.
    Better vans out there

  10. Well if you're keeping the t2 it will need some work at some point and if you can't do it yourself it will cost quite a bit. I can see your dilemma. For me it's about classic vehicles but for others it's more about the camping lifestyle, in which case a t4 or 5 would suit you better.

  11. Needs more work that I thought - swap for my modern van but plus cash my way....?

Only joking - I like your bus but I see where your coming from it will need some pennies spending on it to keep on top of things.

    Good luck whatever you do.

Obviously needs work, I'm not sure it's worth as much as 10k, bit less, you would need to spend around £5k on that to make it nice.

£10k doesn't buy you much in T5 circles

  13. Yeah I know were gonna need more than double what my vans worth

  14. Good honest pics. I understand why you need to sell as sat outside it will continue to let water in and rust away completely.

In my view its a restoration project and maybe you would get 5k in its present condition.

  15. I might get a bit of work done to it then before I sell, someone had a look at it Friday. He should let me know soon how much to do the bits that need it. At least it's solid underneath

  16. if you do decided to sell the van take some pictures when the sun is out and in a nice location ,and the family enjoying it.....

you have to create the illusion...:hattip:

  18. Personally speaking I would not be spending any money on it before sale.

Your van has a recent MOT so its likely to be solid in the right places. That's in its favour.

But you can't hide the obvious rust and worn out paint and leaking glass seals which you have patched up.

The interior looks pretty scruffy and you could give it a big declutter and clean up.

The cab area looks a bit rough not helped by the cab rubber matt past its best. If it were me I would dump the rubber mat and clean up the floor and the rest of the cab. Maybe get a new £20 mat.

and get some rags and wipe off the worst of the engine oil leak. It will be obvious to a buyer there are issues there.

illusions? forget that idea. anyone looking at your van would see it for what it is when they walk down your road.

Your van is not a rust bucket and neither is it a 15k good condition van. Its somewhere in between and I think 5k is its price.

  20. I like your honesty. I think your best way to sell is to be honest and say, look its a solid bus with a recent mot but I just don't have the time to care for it anymore. Buyers would accept that. Giving it a big tidy up would help to sell. But no point spending more money on it.

Its a bit like selling a house, a clean and tidy house always helps the sale.

There are folks on here looking for a bus to restore.
