  1. Any idea what this could be, really thick treacle like oil from front of my bus, think its to do with the hand brake

Drips from where the red arrow and circle are

  2. Looks like oil leaking from your steering box.

Ain't that your steering arm/box? you sure it's not been oiled or greased to lube it and it's just coming out?

  5. Your probably right, it was all taken off to shot blast and paint the chassis then put back on.

So is it normal for a bit to trickle out when re-oiled?

    Thanks

it shouldn't leak, i guess cleaning it has disturbed the gunk and crap that was sealing the leak.....

  7. So I guess I need a new seal or something

    :(

  11. Half a mo I'll just put some feet on and go over to Records....28 x 38 x 7 for the output shaft and 22 x 32 x 7 for the input. Right wheres my glass gone.... just can't get the staff these days..:))

  12. Cheers guys, how very kind of you :)

Now, will machine 7 do the seals and will I be able to do this myself. Im ok with spanners etc

  13. no, you need to google the seals, none of our lovely vw suppliers stock them

Also it's a good time to re-lube the steering box... some gearbox oil mixed with general bearing grease (50/50) gives you about the right viscosity for it

  14. Cheers buddy

Very helpful, all of you. Thanks a lot :D

  15. A hydraulic puller would be handy when it comes removing the drop arm off the output shaft as it can be a bit of a pig to remove.
