Hanging's too good for 'em. ;)
This chap has just rebuilt the engine under warrenty I believe. He's already lost all his profit and more and still willing to do more work, not expecting the OP to lift a finger. A 3 week lead time is hardly something to get worked up about. Engine builders do not want their engines to go wrong, it's bad for business from every angle.

  2. I wouldn't say hanging is the answer but if the blokes margins hang on whether he does a job once or twice then surely he's better off doing it right first time? Leaving the cooling system off a newly built engine because the vehicle has a history of overheating is a lame excuse from what sounds like a Shylock posing as an expert. Maybe my view is jaded but that's only because of past experience and the kind of horror stories I've read on here and seen in the flesh.

Him leaving it off because he assumed he'd never get caught out sounds like a more plausible excuse.

I sit firmly in the name and shame camp. If someone does a good job I'll happily applaud them, give plaudits and recommend. Likewise i'd do the opposite if I got a poor service
    :)

  3. You right zed. To be fair they haven't moaned a bit and this was rebuilt under warranty and they've replace the case and some tinware so I don't think they were cutting corners just should have asked me before they left it off. If I'm honest I just want it on the road again and if it means I have to do the work so be it. At least I'll know it's done right. Can't be arsed with getting hump and shouting at them. Cause who knows. This one might go pop too and I'll have no where to go

  4. I've been reading on the internet and I've come to the conclusion that leaving it off could hinder breaking the engine in. Seems mad to me that they would neglect this unless they don't know to start with?!?

  5. Bit of a crude measure, I'd say. If an engine has a "history" of overheating, it's best to find out why.

  6. I agree, but the fact that's its a new case and they have run it up loads and tested it would hopefully mean the problem is sorted. It is a crude measure and I'll be keeping a closer eye on it this time round, hence noticing the thermostat was missing. I've done a lot to make sure everything is working right. I suppose time will tell

  7. Why on earth would anyone dealing with cars not want to refit everything as it was designed? Or am I missing the point?

  8. I looked at mine yesterday, no stat or flaps so will be on the look out for a set to re-install back to normal. been told like rocking horse **** to find....

I looked earlier this week and recon original stats were £100 or £120 for type 4

  10. are all the flaps the same for t.p engines, I have found a couple of sets but I think out of a beetle. I'm thinking to re install as someone has nicked mine when I wasn't looking:rolleyes:. the whole lot is missing just mount holes in the shroud so engine will have to out again....
