Mine are a bit dim, like myself.
They've seen better days... like myself.
I thought I might try painting the insides with something like this, has anyone tried this?

Not quite the same job but I used a similar spray on the front indicators to tart them up a bit.

Was the cap super shiny chrome like my picture? I suspect the actual paint is more like your picture, but that would be a big improvement too.

Ah no this wasn't advertised as a chrome paint so you may get even better results.
Pretty sure I used this stuff:

One ebay vendor selling the plasticote version is honest enough to say "Please note that the Chrome cap is not a true representation of the finish." which got me thinking.

On the other hand, before your time, there was a guy on the JK forum who painted the bottom half of his bus chrome and that was extremely chrome-like, and he painted the top half with luminous paint "so he could find it in the dark at shows when he was drunk". He posted night pics and it was was indeed extremely glow-in-the-dark. What a nutter!

Must've been an absolute nightmare to drive behind at night with your own lights reflected back at you!

  8. Not seen a paint used but it was someone like Ratwell of Itinerant Air cooled site I saw silver tape used to brighten them up.

That's a great idea, I even have a whole lot of that for my insulation project and it is very shiny. It's aluminium so it might dull down but it's got to be better than grey with orange overspray. I think we have a winner.

  10. Would this be OTT?

The chrome paint or even white paint or adhesive aluminium foil all make a difference.
    I used white paint.

But decent quality branded LEDs just for tail and brake lights make an amazing difference, if you find the type that have lensed emitters facing back (see Classiccarleds) . Tail lights become like brake lights, brake lights like the sun..

I ended up using some joke Chinese H4 headlamp LED arrays as reversing lights too, I have a large collection of useless ( for headlamps ) LED bulbs. Bought before just coughing up £66 a pair of good ones.

    Great suggestions.
I'm not doing the LED thing, nor spending £18+post for a couple of squirts of paint... so... insulation ali tape it - free!
I do however quite fancy an additional LED brake light in the rear window if that's legal. Anyone know?
It's not that anyone has ever nearly rear ended me and I put that down to my smooth driving and good use of mirrors, but no use waiting for that before taking action.

  14. I fancy a high break light too.
I’ve seen them fitted but hadn’t considered the legality of them.
    Also thought of high indicators.

You stuck it on your tailgate paint? And drilled a hole for the cable? Any photos?
I was half-arsed thinking I might be able to mount it inside the van on the head banger cupboard but thinking more I might not be able to see out the back under braking if it reflects off the inside of the glass.
I see cars with then fitted inside the glass, a sort of inside out version of the one you linked to.

  18. For the rear lights i put in some self adhesive silver foil, same time i put the led bulbs in:

i've also been thinking along same lines Steve re high level led brake light- i got this off ebay - only 8 quid, sticks on inside of the rear window. not fitted yet but should be easy, just two wires.

That's the one, I couldn't find one that wasn't delivered on a slow boat from China. Cheers, I've bought one.
