Tango Scooby Bus, here we come!

  1. Well, after reading all about the Subaru conversions I have decided to take the plunge and do a conversion. After much deliberation, I have also decided to use a different bus. Winnie is too nice and too original to chop about, and I just can't bring myself to pull her about like that and rip out all that hard work.

So, I have a friend who's keen on Winnie, and I have found the perfect candidate.....

This bus is perfect. I have always wanted a Tango bus - no engine, no interior but she's a 73 so tax exempt, rock solid and even has retrofit air con so I can hook up to the Scooby engine...

Unlike Winnie, I'm not setting a mad timescale, I'm going to do this as and when time allows, but the only deadline will be Camperjam 2014..... :D

  2. If you're doing it yourself, try and buy a complete donor car because it will make your life a lot easier and you won't get to the end only to find you a missing the one vital part you need to get it running.

good luck fella, Im gonna keep my eye on progress here

  4. Tempting, but I'm after a complete car - I reckon I can buy one cheaply through the trade, wip out what I need and scrap the rest..... Hopefully with change from £450...

  5. Not in a rush as this little beauty is currently in Colorado - going to take a couple of months to get her back over here. I'm going to fit a modern interior, maybe something from Kustom Interiors or Vanwurks..

  6. You have an very understanding bank manager / wife:D

  7. I'll be in trouble if my mate doesn't buy Winnie! I'm in a bit of a daze over it at present, and I have to say if Winnie doesn't sell I'll have to find a home for this when it arrives, but I think she's a really sound prospect.

  8. I paid £500 you my impreza donor, ran it for a few months then broke it, just kept the engine and all the bits out of the engine (fuel filter, clutch etc), all the loom and exhaust
Sold the interior, front end and a few other bits and bobs and with scrapping what was left I pulled back about £400:burp:

A complete car is defo the way to go

    Be watching this with interest

  9. nice looking bus though .......

  10. As I said, I have always wanted a Tango bus! And I think she looks very sound indeed - she was proper cheap too! :)

  11. Please, please keep the pic's and progress up to date for us. We love to see how everyone is doing. A Scooby conversion is the ultimate. can't wait to see.

  13. Watching too.. One day I hope to paint my bus tango :D

  14. Which scoob engine are you planning to run? I'm fitting an ej20 n/a engine into mine running the standard 3rib box. Andy at TSR conversions is a top bloke to speak to for info on the conversions and can supply all the parts to get it done. I bought a 2001 impreza sport for £450 so its defo worth going for the complete car

  15. I've seen a few on eBay cheap, but I thought the wiring was easier on early cars - was planning on picking up a nice unloved Legacy saloon with the 2.2 engine, but 2.0 will be fine - I don't think a turbo would be a good idea...... £450 is proper cheap - like that!

  16. Will be phoning the shippers tonight and getting quotes to ship the little beauty back.... Houston to Felixstowe is one of the cheapest routes I think, that that should help..

  17. So, from Colorado to the UK is £1500 -all in- not bad :)

  18. thats not bad at all!
if it was mine id definitely be keeping the signwriting, even though i hate sports...
watching with VERY much interest :)
the more info i can gain from you lots trial and error, the smoother my conversion will go when i can afford it ;) haha

  19. The earlier ones are easier, I need to put a speed sensor converter in behind my speedo to enable the ecu to work with the bay. Pre 2000 doesn't require the extra sensor. On the 2.0 u need to either reverse the inlet or move the throttle body above the coil pack or it will hit the fuel tank
