It’s a CSP Python and less than 800 Euro http://csplink.de/oQPx9NaFTb
I was really hoping CSP would have a black Friday deal but to no avail, however with the strong pound buying from Europe is cheap(ish) and it’ll be a Python exhaust on my next engine.

  5. I would go for a standard one. "Bling don't mean a thing" plus it will be much quieter

  6. Picture of Python one shows bog standard HX ....surely that defeats the object of the python ex ...you'd have to spend a further 500 on a pair of equal length j tubes ......it does look nice though if slightly wasted on our VW engines

  7. The type 4 one I bought from heritage on one of there 10% off day came in at 381 ....the JK stainless one is similar money and if you look at the VS it is a really nicely made piece of kit .....I know Zed had a few probs with the type 1 ones but I haven't seen any with the type 4 ones .....it is really nice with lambda sensor plugs as well

Ask @Top Banana Racing his split.
Think I might get one anyway, they appear to be a whole lot better than the opposition. I'll be sticking with the HX's though.

For me that’s the advantage of the Python, I wouldn’t consider a system that didn’t use the heat exchangers.

I have searched for tests of exhaust systems for type 4 engines without any success and as far as I can see most folks are more concerned about how it sounds than how well it works; you’ll often find “turn the sound up” as they pointlessly rev the engine.

For what it’s worth here are my thoughts on a few readily available systems.

An EMPI twin quiet pack looks like it might be efficient but has a bad reputation due to rust and poor build quality but in stainless this might be a good choice.

Turbo Thomas has a nice looking ‘Hideaway’ system that certainly looks efficient but it appears to not retain the heat exchangers and at getting on for £1,000 it’s expensive.

Vintage Speed (usually) has a good reputation for build quality but unless there is unseen pipework within the silencer it’s like the standard system and just a silencer bolted to the heat exchangers. I can’t believe this is the best way to extract the exhaust gases.

The CSP Python can be used with heat exchangers and appears to have been designed to aid gas flow. The quality looks good and at about £160 more than a VS Super Flow it’s not too expensive for a system that should last a lifetime.

For a balance between quality, efficiency and price my choice is the CSP but it’s not based on any performance testing because I can’t find any.

I'd agree with that.... but... as you and I want to hang onto our heat exchangers, I suspect the CSP won't offer better performance than a standard box. I've emailed them for some explanation of the collector inserts as I can't find anything on the site, yet they expect you might want one? They seem to act a bit like a venturi in a carb?

  12. Any idea whether this adds any value. I have this but not fitted at the moment. Is it just basically a standard box in stainless.

  13. Hmmn I like that, is that a Mr Weeding creation??

So, would you agree that implies that the exhaust is designed for high revving applications and needs toning down for street use? Madness. I'm out!

I've been chatting with Rob about it this morning and we came to that conclusion and that the stock silencer should cope for my intents and it's relatively cheap to try.
