The main problem you're having is trying to make an unsuitable carb work. Bite the bullet and go twin. Mine warms up to tickover albeit a bit slow, in 10-20 seconds even in the winter. Face facts - your manifold is too long.
The oil would take too long to warm up... exhaust gas is virtually instant heat, and you exhaust gas is around 4 to 5 times the temp of oil at operating temp!!
@vanorak you can obviously get the pre-heat pipes or there wouldn't holes for them, why don't you buy some? Try Heritage, they have kits with smilar like this. http://www.vwheritage.com/vw_spares...D_97373.htm?crumbStartPage=4&crumbStartRow=68
I have three sets of heat riser pipes...I was simply asking whether a new pipe could be made from Flexi to run from one side of the inlet to the collector on the exhaust, or whether a single solid pipe shaped to fit would be difficult to fit....it's all there in the original question
will have another think about the best option....I can get hold of 1.3mm wall stainless flexi, but it's more to do with leakage tbh....
Danke Schon mein Herr! Have you thought about weaving one thru some mesh to make a gas bottle warmer?
If I had a quid for every time someone suggested fitting twins over a prog, I'd have enough to buy a set of air correctors for my IDFs.... I've a matched pair of 40s in a box, complete with linkage and manifolds, mothballed.... I actually want (Yes! want) to see how well a prog can be made to run... If it runs like a crock, I expect people to say "we told you so"....if it runs sweet as a nut, the same folk will probably say "I bet it'll run better with twins" Until such time as I can afford to recon the twins properly, I'd like to see how far I can go with a relatively inexpensive centre mount...
