I took it for a couple of mile drive. The airflow from the vents didn't seem to increase a great deal though....was equivalent to my Jetta blowers on the lowest setting lol If it's generated by the engine fan I would have expected more airflow the higher the revs of the engine?
I had this problem. I took the totum off and the connection at the front crossmember and cleared out all the crud. Then I took her for a 10 MILE run. wow, what a difference.
If you potter about you won't be nearly as warm as if you thrash it. Thrashing it puts heat into the exhaust and forces more air through the heater.
There was a ton of rust and old Marmitee in the pipe work when I took it all off so I knocked it all out.... Should be reasonably clear now
Sounds like a good long run at loud speed is needed then! Lol what sort of airflow is normal though? They've never worked since I bought the bus so I've got no point of reference
if it's all up to scratch, you should be able to hold your hand close to the demist vent but it'll get uncomfortably hot....not quite as hot as holding a freshly made brew in an enamel mug without a handle, but slightly hotter than one with too much milk in it...does this answer your question?
There was no front pipe at all until last week lol although it's feasible that now everything is properly sealed it's pushed up all the crap that was sitting in the back pipe work. Means undoing it all again to find out though *rolls eyes*
That covers the heat side of things rather nicely..... Do you have a good analogy for the airflow rate? Lol
Hoover your pipes out, or you'll get 30-years-worth of filth and dead spiders coming up the dash vents!
Honestly mate, the flow should be enough to feel on your hand from 10 " away at the footwell when revved.
