Does anyone know if it's acceptable/possible/allowed to redirect a rain gutter down pipe into the stench/soil waste pipe on the outside (rear) of my house.
I have too much rainwater for my liking being directed onto our flat roof and its beginning to lift. (It's GRP but hasn't been done very well).

The easiest way would be for me to extend the rain down pipe and cut it into the soil pipe next to it, making the flat roof less exposed to the amount of rain water (it can be a bit of a torrent at times) and then I'll repair the roof .
Otherwise i'll have to insert guttering all along the side of the flat roof and direct it to the current soak away and that will be a pain in the bottom.

I'll post some piccies later .

    Cheers people.

Stench pipe is just that, it takes away stench from the outlet there should be no reason not to tap into it and allow excess rain water away unless you can see obvious problems if you do. The lower you tap in the better

Cheers @PopTop i think it's a stench pipe but it's also a soil pipe for pooh and wee. Is that the same thing? I'm guessing yes!

I’d look at where you’re tapping in and make sure it can’t flow back into the toilet though. I’m sure it won’t be able to, but there are plumbers and then there are plumbers.

Are you on the mains sewage

  12. I’d check with your water company that you’re permitted to direct runoff water into the sewer.

  14. You could get a drain smell from you RWP coming out on your flat roof .That's why the outlet on your vent is at hight level

  15. If they do permit it, in theory they can charge for it.

Not that anyone will check that you’ve done it...

Until it absolutely belts it down and the run off overwhelms the foul drain...
