I need one of the plastic rings that sits on top of ignition housing, it's about 2" dia. and shaped not to fall off. Not sure what to call it. Also the insulating plastic strip that wraps around the column at the steering lock. The lock tongue passes through an oval hole in it to lock the steering. Again not sure what you call it. Neither part appears to be available new, so can anyone help with used parts or point me at new ones please? The van is early, but I'm pretty sure the same parts are used on earlier late bays.
if you have no joy @zed it may be worth trolling through here to find something suitable that can be adapted ask for some samples I used the the bobbin from a roll of ptfe tape for a similar job on a mini
If it was mine... but... This bus is like new everywhere you look with no corners cut. I've chipped the crap off every sq mm of the bottom and recoated with ant-corrosion stone chip, treated cavities, added a servo, converted the steering box, replaced the idler kit, added a 1776 with twin carbs, cooler, filter and a stainless exhaust and replaced all the gearbox seals. The last piece of the jigsaw is the horn working on the button. All the button parts were missing which I've sourced, the column is in pieces now as I couldn't isolate it, now I now why (well it needed painting anyway, for some reason it got left). He didn't even ask me to do the horn it was my idea. So you see it would be nice to have the correct bits.
Is it an early or late. I have a few steering column bits, lock casting, plastic surround, horn push etc off a late. Edit......just see in your post it's early my bits are off a 78
I'll see if I can find it, I have a lot in storage at the moment. It's was from a 78 and the barrel had been forcibly removed! Are you looking for the whole aluminium casting with the steering lock inside?
Doesn't matter about the lock, im slowly putting together a power steering set up and need the ally bit so i can work out what goes where
Cheers I have the shaft and tube along with a Corsa power steering set up, trying to work out where to cut at the mo
No, it was near the top of the recent threads list, I thought someone might be talking to me, but you're just chatting amongst yourselves.
