Spot blaster

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by paradox, Feb 14, 2013.

  1. Im looking to buy one of these gravity fed spot blasters for doing small parts with
This one should work well with my compressor as it only requires 90 psi and 1.7 cfm
My compressor is rated at 9.1 cfm but struggled to run a syphon fed spot blast gun

The only problem id i cant find this type in the uk and i dont want to pay loads of postage from the states and the chance of being stung for import tax
If anyone comes accross these for sale in the uk could you give me a shout please

  2. duty is normally around £100 per $1000 (approx) So I doubt you'd have to pay duty on that!!

I think that is Zero duty under £50, but the duty on that would be very low any way

You'd just pay VAT on that, no import duty to pay,

Cant add a link properly, but section 2.3 tells you what you need to know.

From my recent experience though, I'd say that gun is a false economy, as the hopper will be empty within seconds, the best route for small stuff is a self contained cabinet, (seen a home made one from an oil drum) that can recover and reuse the media.

  6. Cheers for the input guys

Kruger ive been looking at cabinets both diy and shop bought and it seems i will have to upgrade my compressor first

Davidoft is that an all in one unit that doesent require an external compressor?
Im afraid i cant afford it im just intrigued

I was considering making my own spot blaster that was gravity fed from a hopper hanging up but its just an idea thats all

A lot of air must be wasted sucking up the blasting medium with the syphon type systems

The spot blaster I have is a 2 part unit, the blaster is air operated and the more CFM the better, the grit is recovered by a Hoover unit which returns the media and blows out the lighter stuff through the exhaust, you could buy a blaster unit like the one your looking at but they all rely on volume of media and therefore air you can feed through them. My friend made a pretty effective blasting cabinet with a cheap gun and it was pretty good

  8. Thats the one i currently have keith and my compressor struggles to run it
