    What a bummer Rez.
I agree HMV in Sydney had an older guy in the folk/jazz/blues section of their store & he was brilliant. He knew those genres & could suggest artists/bands to customers, he certainly put me onto several I would have normally ignored.

    Good luck

  2. Part of the problem is with all chains now they have to be identical in every store with no allowance to tweak what they do to suit the local economy.

For instance with Jessops in Brighton, there is a large college about 5 mins down the road that has a large black and white photography section with lots of students all needing paper and chemicals, however Jessops massively reduced thier range of those items. There is a tiny independant camera shop round the corner from Jessops that is still going and the college has an independant shop from worthing come to the college and sell the stuff in the carpark.

I know that is just one small example but maybe if chains were allowed a certain amount of freedom to tweak according to local trends then maybe a couple of them might have survived.

Will we look back at this time in 10, 20 maybe 40 years time and remember it as the great death of the high street and sit and explain to our grandkids how in our day we used to have streets full of shops where we could browse and buy? How long until the high streets are turned into housing?

  4. I personally think that the big chains closing down is a good thing. Small independent shops will have a chance and because they will be better run and the customers will be people not numbers so they might stand more of a chance. Also the employees tend to care more rather than being gimp eyed *****s

  11. Its rubbish that if you buy a voucher you then become a creditor and have to go on the list, If it was me I'd walk in and take the value of goods to the value of the voucher. I did here on the news this morning an IT consultant had a 20k invoice outstanding from 5 months ago, So its been in the making for a while.

On the plus side we might get a record store back that will have someone who can recommend something new and different.

I firmly believe in buying of local independants.

  12. the other day they sold me a voucer bloody bad i going in and grabing some thing

  13. If they sold it you can't you return it? I would try that say its no to a satisfactory standard! Trading standards. or didn't last a satisfactory amount of time. Try it,

  15. I think what we need is a website where independant retailers can advertise there products and shop locations which could work in area's, so for example you need a new computer lead, you seach your area and product then it comes up with most local and a price range. Would encourage more localised buying.
I know we have ebay but you never really know what your buying then you have delivery times ect.

    Just an idea.
