Spend HMV vouchers / another retailer going down

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Ermintrude, Jan 14, 2013.

  1. Just a heads up:
HMV appoint administrators on Wednesday so only tomorrow to spend any vouchers.

  2. Do it! Otherwise you will end up the same as us folk with Jessops :( and lose it all! :'(

not exactly, calling in the administrators doesn't mean it's automatically going to close...... that said martin lewis suggests getting shut of all vouchers tomorrow morning in person in a branch not online.

such a shame that another business it going to the wall! they tried so hard to keep afloat, i remember when hmv was the only big record shop, it was either a local independant one, our price, andys records or hmv

  6. Its not vouchers - they have our camera! Two months old! :( Anyone know if you are protected if you paid by debit card, we thought it was just credit cards, but if we are wrong we may stand a chance to get it sorted.

best get rid then - also may be the best day to go for 5 finger discount as the staff will all be well hacked off and probably lend you a larger coat.

in a cruel irony, the chief exec of HMV is Trevor Moore, who was until the middle of last year -

    the boss of Jessops

  12. and non-executive director David Adams is the former chairman of Jessops.

  13. I know when Woolies was closing they also couldnt give change in vouchers so people could go and buy a chewing gum witha £20 voucher and get £19 cash as change. Worth a try.

  14. HMV will almost definately close. The administrators are Deloitte. Every company who has appointed them has closed while Deloitte have made millions from most of them. Woolies, comet, oddbins, Julian Graves etc

  15. Now its HMV

U could see it coming but sad and feel for the employees

Makes working in retail like me very nervous racking :(

I was more upset when our friendly little local music shop closed. It was a great hangout for all the under employed musicians, artists & writers of the district.
Sign of the times, since it closed I've only bought on line but then my normal music choice was rarely available in high street music shops. I'm still not keen on downloads, I like the physical option.

This e-mail leaked last night but was in the inbox for most managers when they arrived in this morning.
No vouchers will be accepted at all.
I'm absolutely devastated over this as I'm now (almost certainly) out of a job. I'm actually off today but I will probably pop in later to see if I will even get paid this month.

All I ask is that people don't turn their anger over vouchers/returns/faulties out on staff. Not all HMV staff are teenagers working part-time through college. Alot of us have wives, kids and mortgages and now we're set to loose our jobs.
