i did the course, it was totally bareable, just keep your head down and get on with it. you get tea and biscuits! you get a choice of dates and locations. you only get offered it once every so many years, and only if you dont have points.
seriously buddy, its not that bad!

  2. I'm with dog; did my course, had a hour of hazard perception which I found interesting as they didn't do that when I passed my test:; then went driving for two hours, were I felt that a few bad habits were ironed out that I picked up over the years also we had a break at an awesome ice cream shop which I regularly go back to now. Was it worth doing than taking the points. Definitely!

  4. Q. What do points make. ?

  5. I did a traffic light course after a red light incident. And found it very interesting due to the attitude of peeps there .much better than points .the 2 guys running the course were ex old bill and knew there stuff overall very interesting .

I hate "you've been a naughty boy"courses too but if it was me i'd just go and keep my head down look sorry if asked and say i'd learnt my lesson. 3 points and a fine stays on your licence for 5 years - how do you know in a couple years you might get a job offer requiring clean licence?

  7. I did course and it was fine, interesting in parts. A good mix of everyday people, and no unwashed to be seen! I'm glad I did it rather than points.

  10. The course isn't so bad apparently (I sent my chauffeur) and you can choose where you take it rather than the nearest place to where you were caught, there can be a big difference in cost too.

  13. Notts plod charge you £90 and are not very flexible on times as in weekends and evenings so I've been told so 90 + a days wage makes it a bit undo able really might just tick the box to stall em for a bit :)

Apparently, there is a way round it that works.

You send a cheque off for £(fine cost) + £1.00 and you will get a return cheque back for the difference, dont cash the cheque and the computer system cannot close the loop and add the points.

Dunno if it works or not

  16. well your choice my friend, me ? i (usually) drive for a living , but in these very strained/hard times co"s are insisting on a total clean license which i do not have, ergo, scraping a living, till license is clean , re cells , you have to have been heavy sentenced previously i.e.fines, comm. service , before they jail you , as i understand the system (thou dont tell any magistrate " but steve said .... ")

  18. Just found out you CAN take the course if you got points allready so I think I am going to swerve the course this time
And if I get caught again I may be in a more submissive frame of mind and do the course again
I am going to phone the insurance up next week and inquire at what sort of difference 3 points does make on my cars

  19. The whole course thing is a pain in the arse with paying more and then taking time off work too. As far as I understand it, the Government took speeding fine revenue away from the local authorities as there was a perception (read: FACT) that they were using speed cameras as a revenue raising tactic. Hence many sites being mothballed. Speed awareness courses are not affected - they're keen to offer you one of these as they keep the money! They can then recycle this money into the latest digital, no film required cameras to nick even more people. Back to revenue raising again. Long term view = take the points as it's not funding more cameras.

  20. I did the course, no big deal, no unwashed either strange mix of middle aged guys no boy racers. Paid £80 flexible timings no loss of work, ate the biscuits drank the tea and water and went home with still a clean licence.
Some insurance companies ask if you have done a speeding awareness course, no ask no tell.
Found it quite informative, you cannot do another one for 3 years from the date.
Speeding points don't make much difference to your insurance, what galls me is that two no fault found accidents are held against me and puts my insurance up by about £100.
Do the course you will probably meet some old friend there I did.
