bought a replacement set of leads but the ends are different, my spark plugs dont have the caps on the ends just a small threaded part so i will need them now or a new set of plugs. does it make any differance to the running(1600tp) with or without them and can you buy just the ends of the spark plugs.
you'll need the ends, or the leads will fall off!! What leads did you purchase, as they often come with the plug ends!! If you get stuck, then I probably have some kicking about!!
cheers paul, i relised straight away the spark plug ends were missing as soon as i took the old leads off. the new leads as you say will just fall off, i'll pop in to a garage to see if they have some old plugs i can pinch the ends off, i presume they are pretty standard items...
I would just stick a new set of plugs in rather than faffing about trying to source just the end pieces. New plugs always come with them anyway.
Nobody answered my query about this while back, but every beetle and camper i've had has had plug leads which don't use the little screw on caps. I've presumed VW did it this way as fitting spark plugs can be a bit fiddly and there's a risk of dropping the cap into the plug hole. Anybody know?
if the cap is screwed tightly to the plug there shouldn`t be a problem, but if it`s loose wouldn`t it cause the plug to arc ?
You'd have to be a complete muppet to achieve this level of cackhandedness. Or female They're screwed on, how can they come off?
No profound reason, I'd think. Some caps grip the thread, some push on to the screwy end cap thing. My bus is the first older vehicle I've had that uses the thread.
just go down to your local garage, they probably have some kicking about, they wont charge you for them,if they want to,walk away, try next garage.
