    Soundproofing (again) Tin top roof...

I know all the theory etc - I've read a zillion posts on the subject.

I know you can get heavy paint that needs lots of coats but I can't be bothered.
I know I can buy pads or sheets of heavy anti resonance material
I know lots of you use flash band from the builders merchants.

Q - has anyone used anything "stick on" for the inside of the roof? And if you have has it been there long enough to be sure it won't fall off when the sun beats down on the roof and heats it up?

    Thanks for looking. :)

  2. With my first van (2 slider) it only had headliner in the cab, the back was bare. So I used that foil covered bubble wrap as an insulator. I used strong carpet double sided tape to hold it in place, that stuff sticks like marmite to a rabbits fur (if you've ever been caught short in the woods without bog roll, rabbits are great ;) )

Served an unexpected benefit of sound insulation too
    :)

Are you aware of the heavy paint that needs lots of coats?

  6. Ive used foil bubble too,i used duct laggers ali tape to fix it,we use it on all ducts in hot and cold, again sticks like proverbial and easy to work with just tear it off or cut what ever.If you really want to sound proof the van into a nice little recording studio use pyrosorb we make silencers and use in sound rooms it sucks sound :) its brilliant but not cheap!!

I just want to stop the roof resonating with something that won't fall off. :(
I don't care about thermal insulation.
I can think of things that would work, but will they fall off that's the question?
I don't want to have to take the roof ply sheets back out again (again).

Perhaps a high temp glue may be the answer...

  8. cut the roof off and put one of those pop top things in it
    :)

  9. hi zed i bought some of the bog standard sound deadening pad from a body and paint shop and stuck them to the roof and if its cold i would use a hair dryer to get them nice and tacky :D and they have been on 4 years and they have never come away in the heat or cold and they did make a big difference to the noise level ;D

  10. you could always think about sticking some sharp objects in your ears...

  12. What did you go for in the end? I need to put something on mine

my van has rock wool type stuff( not rockwool) its spray glued to the roof and the headliners holds it tight so even if the glue gets soft in very hot weather it sticks back to it again :)

  14. I used therma wrap with high temp glue. I left it for a year before I put my ply panels up to make sure it didn't fall off in the heat and it didn't budge.

  15. Still the same answer

  16. If you heat the flash and as you put it on the bichumin will stick better and then set when not cools, it shouldn't then come off when the roof heats up, otherwise the product would fail when it is used to seal roofs etc when the sun hits it

  17. Dynamat ;)

  18. Dunno, ask zed, he'll know. Oh, wait...! ;)

  19. What would be useful would be something sticky that you dont have to heat up and that doesnt fall off when its sunny I thinks!

    Or expanding foam!

  20. original stuff looks like this...

So I suppose you could use something like needled wool...
