I've read several comments way back, but didn't take them in ... Which battery charger would you use / have you happily used to keep a starter battery or leisure battery topped up? FWIW this is probably going to be for "free-standing" mainly. Thanks
CTek. End thread. When you're free-standing, do you go for one hand on hip, or the full Rik Mayall leer?
Sorry, I should have given a bit more "back story" ... I have a spare redundant starter battery thanks to a bit of dodgy practice courtesy of one rogue technician in an orange taxi Ten months of chipping away at various parties has drawn a blank so I'm trying to "move on" by using it as a "test-hub" for DIY VAWT. The charger is to keep it healthy during the many pauses involved hence the free-standing ......
I did a product review on my Absaar Pro4 battery charger nearly 3 years ago. Still using it and still like it.
Nordelettronica 12A mobile home charger / maintainer . Installed inside the bus / building rather than in the engine bay. Silent. No fan. Disconnects itself from the battery when the mains goes off. Also from 12voltplanet. A small Ctek will do if all you want is to keep it charged. Or actually a 10w solar panel and a diode without a regulator will trickle charge a car battery at under 1 amp forever without damage.. Avoid the middle of LIDL style chargers .. quite good spec but .. they can suffer from condensation buildup inside their "waterproof" cases which eventually causes the mains to start dissolving components before they go bang.
@Dub and Dubber. Amazon have the 0.8ah on offer at the moment, i have something similar which i swap accross batteries over the winter as the batteries will loose charge over a few months https://www.amazon.co.uk/CTEK-Autom...sprefix=12v trickle chager ctek,aps,64&sr=8-5
That Ctek trickle charger at Black Friday prices looks good. If your wind turbine works then you wont be needing more than a trickle charge off the mains while between experiments.
I’ve got a couple of Ctek chargers. Reviews were good. Seem to work well and are of very good quality. Good price from Halfords with a discount/trade card.
