Sometimes the old way was best

  1. I like the new forum now ive got used to it and it is a lot more intuitive
However i do feel that since we have moved accross from the karma system to the like system
that a fair few people myself included are just pressing
The like button instead of commenting on a post and saying karma on its way
Then sending a message with the karma to that person explaining why you were sending it

I suppose i feel the like button doesent have the same feeling and forum input as the old karma system did

Agreed Para, I'm tending to use  a lot more too instead of letting people know why in karma.

The old way was the best, i don't like the new forum layout, the upgrade came at exactly the same time as a big change in my life and because of that i have found it very easy to post less and less on here, i miss the banter but i realise i was on here far too much so that was one good thing, i still have the odd read but i just can't "get into it" any more, hope everyones well though.

Overall, the new forum is considerably better IMO, better organised, looks better, seems quicker & more responsive as well. Alerts are good, we've lost the post counts next to every post and the ignore function works so much better ;) All good things.
I agree about the loss of karma and the 'like' option probably does replace positive posts a bit too easily but things change and as I understand it, we'd outgrown the old site and the upgrade was almost forced because it just couldn't handle the use/traffic etc, so a victim of it's own popularity.
The downtime seems to have acted as a dose of cold turkey for some and it has lost alot of the old cliqueness - all good. They have rebuilt it in double quick time so hats off to Horts and his fellow admin crew.
The old way may have been best, but the new way is better...:)

I don't miss the karma function at all (and I used to give and receive it). Good riddance to it I say.
The rest of the changes I now like, especially the improved ignore function.

The old karma was a good feature but lost its meaning. The comments made me chuckle and I miss them more than the karma itself.
I'm getting used to the new site now and generally like it.
Glad it's settling down as it had started to grate me at times.

But it also helps those less articulated, which I'm sure you've noticed I'm one, to join in sometimes when words fail.

    Edit

I do use the 'like' more than I did the 'karma' as they have a different function in my eyes. You can like a post to agree with the poster's comment but to of given a karma may not of been right. Maybe be we should have both.

  12. I like the set up of the new site - like all change it takes getting used to and there were always going to be things that each of us do or don't like but you can't please everyone all of the time and why should you have to. The like function is to easy to hit but those who want to express themselves can still do so. onwards and upwards.

  13. Finding myself in agreement with baysearcher - karma and like do different things I think there is space for both. Have to admit I was often too lazy with the karma and certainly wasn't too fussed about if I had any or not, but I have started to use the like a bit more. I am not on the computer much therefore for me it is a nice quick and easy way of showing agreement with someone
