So, what's my 67 beetle worth as it stands

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by icepug, Feb 10, 2013.

  1. As many of you will be aware, I stumbled across an early 67 beetle just before Christmas and there's quite I lengthy post on here about it. After a lot of thought I have decided to sell it on to someone who wants to restore her back to her original beauty (i think pop top was interested). What I propose to do is use the money to do some work to my van so with that in mind I want as much as possible for her (don't we all!!). Does anyone on here have a clue to what she is worth. Being quite honest, the underside of the beetle is mint. The only work I can see that will need doing is the shell (full resto) and re-covering of the seats. I will get an mot on her as that will boost the potential of a sale. I know it's not a bay but like I always say, you guys are honest and will let me have it as it is. Thanks for any replays in advance. Sweet

  2. I reckon about £30, I'll pop round and pick it up in the week if thats ok? o_O

  3. Really. I was looking for closer to £40. There's always one

A US 67 resto cal is on my bucket list, but I've not the means to take it off your hands! As a starting point with an MOT you should get at least £2k? If all the 67 only bits are in place? Valence, decklid, handles etc?

    Good luck tho!!

  6. It's all there. Apart from the engine. It's been changed to a 1300 somewhere down the line (but it is a good strong 1300 with the 1500 air filter so not to hard to put back to original) Apart from that she's pukka.

Ok here is my input - i reckon it's worth what someone is willing to pay , you pm'ed me earlier offering me the beetle saying you know i am interested and would i like to buy it , i said yes how much and can i come view , you said yes but you had no idea what it is worth , but would like to let me have it for a reasonable price hoping that what goes around comes around , now ok i accept you have to get some idea of the value and to a point asking here is a good starting point - But i feel this is going to turn into a auction with varying view points , you paid £150 for it a month or so ago , i imagine you have spent some time and money on it and for this you should cover your costs , if you want to make some serious money from it offer it up on here or ebay to the highest bidder .

If you really want to do me or someone a good turn then set a price that covers your costs and sell it , if not auction it , this is a very confusing thread for me to read as it makes me wonder what you're playing at , are you intent on selling it to me and merely getting a gist of the value or making other people aware of it's availabilty ?

if it is worth 2k then quietly strike a deal with someone who is willing to part with that kind of money for it and i will continue my search .

Best of luck whichever way you choose :)

  8. Can't help but think thats a bit harsh Malc. I offered it to you first because I have a queue of people wanting to see it and as you were interested from the start I thought it only fair to let you have first dibs. I didn't want to put up a for sale thread and give you the arse. As for price, I know this model is very desirable and i'm well within my rights to see what I could get for it, I said you could have it for a reasonable price but I'm not giving it away as I want the money to spend on my bay and I know its worth a few bob. By offering you first dibs, I meant you could make me an offer and If i thought it was reasonable we could have a deal but how can I know if its reasonable without knowing what its worth? Hence the post

  10. Tbh mate I can see both points of view, I know it's worth more than you paid and fair play for getting a good deal, but the problem you face here is people on tlb will always know what you paid. Looking at the links from bs, 2k is no where near realistic but again people will only pay what they think its worth.
Have a gander on fleabay and other VW sites to see what similar bugs are going for... Not much use I know.

I can understand wanting to make as much as possible to be honest. None of us on here would sell our buses for less than market value regardless of what we paid for them, or whether or not it was a forum member buying it.
What he paid for it really isn't relevant.
(Thats not to say there is a massive profit in this motor, I personally dont think there is).

  12. Looks like you got a bargain for £150 and it looks more solid than my '70, though its still probably only worth a grand or so max. Ebay it with a reserve price if you want maximum cash.
Its always gonna be worth more as parts than as a complete car to he honest. The eberspacher alone will set someone back a good 2 or 3 hundred quid and you're looking at £100 for the engine lid.

  13. This is my predicament. I would not like the idea of breaking a car that can be saved but on the other hand 'money talks' and all that. If i brake her I could make a small fortune but I would feel guilty at the same time. Decisions, decisions!!

  14. I know how you feel. My bug should have been scrapped but i couldn't bear to do it so am soldiering on with the resto.
Its not as if its a particularly rare car though, and breaking it would keep others on the road.

Okay i accept it is harsh , but my point is i deal straight none of this i don't know what its worth rubbish , i sold you something some time ago and it was a straight price , deal done , sorry if it upsets you but that is the way i deal - i'm out .

  16. I actually messaged you after I had posted this thread Malc because I remembered you were interested. Next time I won't bother, no pleasing some people. I also think a set of wheels is a bit different to a whole car and i'm not upset I just thought I was being nice. Like I said, I have a queue of people wanting to come and see it so it doesn't really bother me who I sell it to, I was actually trying to be decent in letting you see it first. As for the pricing, I was going to see what the general consensus was and let you have it with a bit of friendly discount which I think is more than fair as I don't really owe you anything, it only because your a part of the late bay community.

Are there any pics of the car? I feel my £2k estimate should've had a more sound reasoning!!
