So today is the first day of a lot of blood, sweat, money and tears being used in abundance. My 79 Moonraker project turned up...... I have spent most of the day, emptying, cleaning and assessing the job in hand. I must say over all I am very very pleased with it. It has some areas that I presumed would be shot that are very good condition and I estimate that 95% of the main structural parts are in great shape too. To be fare, it looks like most of the work is outer panels and some light stuff underneath. Here are some pictures as I now relax with a beer as i am just about to search the net for project goodies.
A lot of the work is going to be undoing somebody else's and repairing properly. Its going to be restored to as original as possible.
Here's hoping you don't have to re do any of the work as much as you did with your photos Best of luck with it
I apologise for not being proficient in posting photos. I will try keep the pictures coming in a better fashion and keep updated with how it's going. I'm now searching for the bits and bobs I need to get this going. Hoping for it to be on the road next year.
Don't apologise ... was just being the class bully duffing up the new kid with a cheap gag Slightly worrying how different we can be online sometimes ......
Welcome to tlb forum. There are lots of true experts on here who have done large scale restorations and you can have a good look through the Restorations section to see the good work folks have done. As its going to be a big project, I would suggest you project manage the process and take your time to identify and list the work needed and of course more stuff will turn up as you go along, being organised is key and be methodical rather than diving in here and there. A restoration manual or two would help a lot and the Fletcher Gillett one is very good.
That rear arch repair is a beauty! At least they didn't use the whole repair panel, hopefully it will spring back straightish when you cut it off. Good luck, but couldn't you find a better one?
Thank you, I will take that advice. I have already worked out in my head what needs doing, however I think I need some giant paper lists so I can put them up in front of me. I am going to start with the front off side sections and work my way around the bus. I just hope I can keep this enthusiasm up.
