Right, turns out the PO bolted anyold parts to his van and wasnt bothered i it worked or not! Mines a 78 and it has an early dash in it! You can just see that it has two heat controls and the cold air lever, however underneath the dash i have these heater cables Close up it seems 3 cables are tied to the left hand red lever and the right hand lever to cable attachment has failed and snapped, There is no heat coming into the cab what so ever, even on a long run, can ant one tell me what i need to change about this set up as i really need some kind of heat in the bus!! Thanks guys B
Looks like a late dash to me! Earlies would've been smooth with two blue air vent levers. Each of the red heater levers should have two cables running to them. The heat control should operate the two long cables running back to the heat exchangers. The heat direction control should also have two cables: one running down to the front heat riser under the dash, the other running back to the diverter valve under the cab floor. Take a look at where the cables you've got run to.
Lol, the force is strong in pop top! Looks like PO shoved anything on then lol its got an early sliding door too :-S Ill have a look and see whats what tomorrow hopefully Cheers chaps! B
I had a fiddle today.. .. I also tinkered with the van and the red lever on the left operates the totem pole by the sound of it moving so theoretically the one with the broken cables is the heat control to the heat exchangers which would answer the lack of heat, so my guess is the heat exchangers are currently shut off? Would this be possible? B
Hi Brucieboy... this link to Frank's VW Stuff gives an excellent explanation of the heating system and its controls so is well worth a look: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/freemefromthishell/vw/T2%20Heating.htm
yes , they close up if the cable is disconnected , the flap closes to stop warm air flowing through and a side opening is then opened and te warm air flows out not up the main pipe .
Yeah i know about the steering wheel, im not a fan, ive got a period replacment i got off a guy on here but havent fitted it yet
Sorry disagree poptop the early clocks are gray and have a gray circle in the middle of each clock and the fuel gauge will bounce around if fitted to a late petrol tank early clocks in the front lates in the back
For getting some heat in the short term and this is handy if anyone heater cables have siezed is to disconect the cable from the exchanger and strap the exchanger lever open with cable tie. When summer gets here eventually snip the ties.
yes i knoiw i have been after some for a few month's the clocks in that pic looked early until i saw the kph lines this morning - i know nothing
looking at those dash's mines a late, even the clocks as they have black inners, the silver ring you can see on the first pic is the stock ring around my oil temp gauge. B
Ill sell you mine once swapped matey? you going to be at tekenders on the saturday? To be honest, its quite nice drive with comfortable and chunky, especially when turning the wheel round corners. B
Im afraid im skint dude and not at techenders Ill give you a shout further down the line if you havent allready sold it by then
