Curiosity has got me with this van of yours Matt. I would love to get to the bottom of the build process and see if it was what the evidence suggest. A Westy with a Devon roof.

Saw similar wording ( remark Westfalia) on the M code thread here in simont2's picture

No but I have a birth certificate that shows the roof was for a Westy roof.

Westfalia conversion all have their own SO number it does mean special order, but isn't limited to one or two. There were thousands of Berlins and continentals made,

I am coming to the conclusion that SO73 is a factor option for a pre cut hole with reinforcement in the roof.

Then if westifa took it to fit the inside out it became SO73-1 or something depending on interior.

  17. My 78 berlin certificate says SO76 as the model.

M code M073 is the option for a westfalia roof:

So two different M codes would probably be because two types of roof were fitted by Westfalia.

If it had a westy roof, that's one big hole on a 75 to cover and the Devon one simply doesn't cover it.

My money is on a tin top westy that was converted later to a Devon maybe.

Is there a hole in the floor around 4 inches back behind the drivers seat, roughly at the centre line of the drivers seat? It should be around an inch and a half diameter? That's where the drain hole for the sink on Malaga and Oxfords should be.

Another give away is the two large square holes in the floor that have zink holders riveted in to hold the gas bottles.

If it's not got these then it's either had the floor replaced or was never converted.

My pessimistic head is worrying that it's a ringer....the big hole in the roof is hard to change as are the gas bottle holes, and the missing vin plate.

    :(

I know the opening mechs are different on 74's, but the roofs the same I thought...what's the other one look like?
