Would someone be kind enough to put a pic of the exact position of the snail fan in the roof of the engine bay please,in the process of fitting one that came with the type4 engine, the bus didnt have one before so no captive bolts or anything in there.
    Cheers in advance.

Should be to the right or if you have og carbs and linkage with large return spring the pipes get in the way.

  10. Except 72s. Type 4, fan but no hatch :)

76, 1600, no hatch, converted to type4 2ltr, so its going slightly to the right to miss the breather pipework, ran out of daylight today and its cold out so i'll finish the job tomorrow.

  12. Sorry to butt in, but I keep seeing the thread title and reading it as Snail fan. Which I know is what it says, but then I think to myself "I wouldn't say I'm exactly a fan, but they're better than slugs" ...

    Sorry again. *tiptoes off*

Flackey how did you fit the fan in the engine bay roof , did you find any ready made fixing threads or did you have to drill write through to upper floor and nut and bolt it .am interested as mine was 1600 then a 2ltr and trying to figure out how to fit it . hope it is easier to fit than the near side heat riser . had to refrain myself from believing in the old prehistoric theory of if you don't understand it Smash it !.

  14. That is a 72 Albeit a late 72

Drilled and bolted through, put some slightly bigger nuts on underneath first to act as spacers so it didn't just crush the sound insulation board thing on the engine bay roof, and positioned to the right to avoid re routing the tank breather pipes.
Still need to wire it up, and take some pics later.

It should fix to one of the strengthening bars, not the roof panel, so no bolt heads inside the passenger area. Large self-tappers will do the job.

  17. So its a 73. This ain't prototype bay mate!!! Im talking model years not year of manufacture.

My 72 is mounted centrally with the bracket for the fan spanning the two engine bay sound board things.
Fairly certain my old 72 was the same but that was a UK spec 1700 so may have been different .

If you look at LHU's pic you can see why they're off to one side - the throttle linkage return spring.
Buy a set of cardboard tubes to connect it up - one will be long and one short. ;)
My 73 (model year) was off to one side.
I retro-fit them to one side.
I move them from the middle when customers ask me why their throttle doesn't return and I see the spring missing and no way to fit it.

If you have aftermarket carbs with an linkage that doesn't need this return spring, it won't matter where you put it. In fact someone on here has it installed under the spare wheel well I think.

  20. Yes it is a 73 model year , flakey didn't specify earlybay ,crossover ,earlylate bay ,latebay or late latebay or what carb / fuel injection or even early type snail fan or late type snail fan , I did make the effort to post a pic of my bus tho :p
