Smart phones....?

  1. Ok, so I'm on the hunt for a new phone...

I've currently got a samsung galaxy ace, and TBH it's Marmiteter than Marmite... I've been nursing it for the last 6 months... 181MB of internal memory, and no easy way to transfer the plethora (150MB) of unneeded applications off it, or onto the SD card!! No idea why samsung even made it like that... pure stupidity is all I've come up with so far!!

Soooooo I'm currently looking at a galaxy S2, but obviously they're all used ones now, or a nokia windows phone... any opinions/recommendations welcome

I upgraded to the Galaxy S4, I'm happy with it.

  3. Just stay away from apple and you'll be fine ,I would agree that the Galaxy S4 looks really nice

Conversely I'd say the iPhone 4s is the best phone I've owned by a country mile.

Maybe a trip to carphonewarehouse is on the cards?

  6. Fair play ,I have a Iphone 4s but much prefered the HTC I previously owned ,there just so locked down its unbelivable ,jail broke it but still much prefered the HTC ,plus I use to stream footy on my HTC via wiziwig but the Iphone dosent even have flash so you cant :(

  7. i have a htc windows phone for work and its good for windows etc,
i have an iphone 5 and i love it but i much prefer apple so i am biased,
my ex has a s2 and she likes it but it does lock up a bit and needs to be restarted and people i work with have htc phones and love them,

  8. iPhone 4S here as well. There's nothing really you can't do with it. I'd steer clear of iPhone 5s for the time being. "Less is more" is the philosophy, and it works well IMHO.

If you go for Android, my faves were HTC. Lost their way a bit, but still good stuff. I'd stay away from Nokias. I'd be surprised if they last, long term.

  9. Unless you are on a really tight budget I would recommend a later Samsung than the S2 as the later gens are miles ahead in functionality, speed, OS capability (for now and in the future - the S2 has no official update for the latest point release of the Andriod OS, for example). The S4 is lovely, if larger than a lot of people might expect, and what I would get, but the S3 is still a nice phone.

I have an iPhone 4, but haven't gotten around to upgrading as I don't need the extra functionality - a hard realisation for me to come to in straitened circumstances as I'm a confirmed gadget geek!

Personally while I think when the iPhone 3S and 4 (and to a slightly lesser extent the 4s) were my phone of choice back when they were released, Samsung and Google have advanced far ahead of Apple's efforts in the intervening years to the point where unless you are Apple fan I wouldn't recommend later iPhones over the competition.

  10. HTC and android is the way forward... HTC sense is a really good overlay

  11. Sony Experia Z

  12. This is another one of those issues... phone size o_O I want a phone that I can just bung in my pocket... I might have to go iPhone 4s in that case, as a lot of these new phones are getting silly big!!

  13. Do it. You won't regret it. Super camera, display's amazing, antenna probs fixed. T'will also still be worth a few bob when you sell it.

If an upgrade's too pricey, plenty of used on fleaBay.

I ended up with an iPhone 4S for the size alone, it can do all I want and more and fit it my pocket ok, still way bigger than any phone of a few years ago, IPhone 5 is bigger again

  15. What do you want to do with your phone? I had several old skool smart phones (O2 XDAs) in the search for a phone that did everything and worked out that they were Marmite phones with loads of unnecessary tat added on. For a decent phone with e-mail, a standard Blackberry is hard to beat. If you want something shiny with apps, get an iPhone, but it's not as good at the basics as a Blackberry as the touch screen typing is a PITA.

  16. iPhone 5 all the way, just the best by a country mile - I love it and can't really find anything wrong with it.

  17. o_OI've still got one off these up in the roof! It it's any good to you

  19. That was my first gsm phone, got it just after it had come out. Can't remember what analogue one I had.
But I can remember the father in law had one the size off a handbag. Well it was to keep the battery in.
