Modern cars are probably more reliable but the cars I see broken down at the sides of motorways are usually all newer than mine. What about flat tyres? I’m slightly pleased my camper is a lhd so if I break down on a stupid smart mway I can hopefully jump out and run to the side being getting wiped out by the vehicle behind.
When I had a flat coming down the M1 I was limping along and had my hazards on and still had an artic up my chuff as I tried to get to a refuge point. *****.
There's less lorry drivers nodding off.. As the roundabouts and junctions keep them alert.. Not a run of 100 miles without much to do..
I really don’t think they care about us, we are such a small % of road users. When was the last time you saw a historic car on the road. I believe they brought in the historic and mot exempt so they can go after the 10+year cars, they want everyone to buy new cars and cut local pollution
yesterday I came up the mway from Kent and ended up getting off and going A roads as conditions were awful and wagons still passing at speed. I decided I’d prefer longer drive than risk of accident.
A long time ago they stated that the optimum speed was 40mph. And I once calculated that if you sit less than 30 to 50 cm off the tail of the car in front, no matter how hard they brake the impact has to be less than 5mph... until you shunt them into the stationary vehicle with 40 profile tyres and a flat.
I think they read TLB these Tory crowd pleasing tosspots http://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/i’m-going-to-say-it.84544/#post-1615042
The ideal car to drive in London is a Morris Minor, tax free, mot exempt, congestion charge exempt, cheap insurance, cheap to buy, easy to maintain, 35mpg, cool looking.
Agreed but good ones are silly money now , 3k+ for anything half decent ... Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
I don't know much about smart motorways and I don't drive on motorways these days anyway. I like a slower pace of life now. But from what's been said smart motorways are dangerous and the project has become another costly government failure, looks like HS2 is next for the chop.
Different kind of cred .... Bloke with a 30k Beemer wouldn't consider even getting a lift in the moggie - I'd drive either but would prefer the Morris Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
