I love them all the signs say use hard shoulder no one does so I have a nice chilled drive with a whole lane to myself
I’m convinced that’s a way to make money. I used to split my time between sunny dunny and Brighton. Which meant I was often travelling up at silly o’clock in the morning. M25 clear. Very little traffic. For no reason a random 50mph sign turned on, which are linked to the cameras. I saw no end of people pottering along in lane one doing a sensible 70mph get flashed. Personally I think that they should need to give you a written and photographic evidence of what justification they had to switch a lower speed limit sign on, if they issue you a ticket.
When I used to go to a club on the edge of Slough, then drive back to Reading afterwards at 3 in the morning there would always be a ‘fog’ warning sign. I think it was an attempt to slow folk down.
It was most likely down to a hipster in front with a vaping machine. Fog signs are ok, they don’t issue you a speeding ticket.
During Rush hour on the M42, which I use daily, they are pretty good apart from around junctions. I don’t understand why they don’t have the red crosses on when the hard shoulder lane isn’t in use, which is a fair amount of the time...I’ve watched many a foreign truck happily thunder along that lane when it’s actually closed. I’d hate to be broken down in them though.
I use that motorway a lot at tea time from the M40 split usually heading for the M6 north and I seriously think that M40 M6 toll/ A5 section is awful when they turn on the management system, much better without it. Imo
Exactly this. And they’re supposedly going to start making the directions they indicate compulsory and the camera will instigate an immediate fine. I read it in truck and driver or similar a few months back.
I am surprised there hasn’t been more incidents since they were brought in. Nightmare scenario breaking down in the camper in a live outside lane no shoulder to stop on. Might only take seconds to get everyone out but a lot can happen in that time.
