Thought it looked unfinished, with holes in the ends. I was just going to put a bit of seam sealer in and make it flush...but now I know I can accessorise it! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks, got the trim at the cab end but not that little blanking cap at the other. Not going to let it bother me, never thought about it until today and not even 100% convinced all years and models would have had it; that end of my trim isn't cut square and having had the the van in the family since '96, pretty sure it's OG. Might have a little look on the VW parts diagrams just to satisfy my curiosity
Looks like someone gave up re-fitting that and stapled in on higher? It should be tucked in like snotty's and dangle lower I think.
The wide plastic strip has a fold at the top which fits into a metal strip which runs all along the bus. I've assumed it's a Westy thing to stop the curtains getting greased up.
Ah yes, thanks for the photo, it's all coming back to me now... it didn't stop mine sticking there fingers in the grease when they were just the right height to stand in the doorway and reach up without looking! That grease went after that - when I looked at it all it appeared to be doing was help the roller to slide rather than roll. Do you think it needs greasing? All I've done with subsequent buses is clean that track and leave it though I don't know if that's the intention.
Good point. Bentley says grease the rollers if they're stiff, but after 40 odd years the entire top and bottom tracks are now clarted with it. I've always assumed it protects the channels from wear and corrosion.
That was the conclusion I came to a couple of months ago. A nice new nylon roller and no grease = smooth slider action ... The All New, New "What have you done to your Bay today" thread.
After several attempts to fit the rubber trim, put it back in the spares box. Thanks for all the replies.
