Silly idea or free cooling

  1. Here y'go. Filter head is bolted to the chassis under the rear panel. Plenty of protection from the chassis rail and engine backbar.

Mine is tucked up in the back left corner on the chassis rail. Its vertical because then the oil doesnt come out so fast when I change the oil filter .
I used to use the Fram HP1 and fitted a little shield to the filter attached to the engine bar.

But I tired of scene tax and changed to smaller Mann w719/5 and deleted the metal plate as it never got hit.

One thing I noticed was that when I didnt have a cooler, increasing the volume of oil with a filter would slow down the heat rise, but after an hour on the motorway there would be little difference in temperature.

Sticking another 9 feet of hose and a cooler increased the oil cooling surface area, things got better.

Buying an engine which was properly put together with clean flash free cylinder heads... even better for cooling at the same speed.
