I wanted to get one cos the wife struggles a bit these days, but I hadn’t thought about galvanic corrosion. So it’s a no then.
For the sake of his employer i hope he’d read and signed his risk and method statement ..poor sod , a freak accident for sure and no doubt no training, or piece of paper signed or not would have made a jot of difference
They're not really steps - too narrow, too near the sill, more like bling to step past, making it harder to get in and out. Just my opinion.
I hate them. They get in the way when you want to put a van on the lift, or if you just want to crawl under the side, or you want to use the jacking points...
We have a step, but a standalone fold away one - not attached to the van. Then we can opt to take it or not, depending if we are taking our elderly dog with us, who would otherwise need lifting into the camper because her back legs don't have much spring left in them these days It's a substantial metal one. Probably came from JK iirc
I bought one, just not fitted it, and probably won't now. A milk crate was probably, as mentioned, the best solution. I said at the time you were a Dick - apparently we were both right! On a positive note, I have definitely refined being a bellend, I am far far more sophisticated now at it than then aren't ?
The solution is to fit the bling step to the non-slider side so you don't bark your shins on it and carry a milk crate or folding step to actually use.
My original post was trying to trace the step my van had originally - it looks like it had the fabled 'Ambulance step' that folded out, and then backward and up when stowed. They are apparently a rare beast.
My first van had a fold/swing down step. Not original and a bit cumbersome but a good idea. Home made. Say no more.
