I do love a side step, Them things that go in the jacking points of a bus look good too (and dont mean a jack)
My westy came with a little step under the R n R bed. We use that. Makes a nice little drinks table also.
Thought I would breathe some life into this old thread as I was looking at side steps and noted many mentions of "milk crate". A few years ago I did a plastering course and said milk crate was often used by plasterers to skim ceilings, but our instructor warned against as he had once put his foot through the upturned base and the shattered ribs of the base sprung back into his lower leg and trapped him firmly and the more he pulled the more the sharp plastic dug in and the blood pumped out. I liked the little folding jobbie above and we have just bought one to perfectly complement Lottie's colours:
A plasterer died in Bristol a few weeks ago. He fell off his hop-up and stabbed himself in the armpit with his trowel. He was the only bloke on site so no-one there to help. Poor sod.
I haven't been on a course but I reckon a float would give a better finish than a milk crate. Got a nice smooth roof, you see!
I used to have them until I realised that with a lowered bus, they often hit the kerb when squeezing down a narrow road. So one of mine was cracked when I got the bus. Then I realised the contact of aluminium with steel was promoting rot of the jacking point, where water was getting trapped between the two metals making a little battery. They went grotty looking. I took them off. The fixing bolts rotted to the step. I havent thrown them away as one day I might get a TIG torch and gas bottle for my welder.
Sad! Basically shouldn’t be working on his own and I’m sure H&S would have a field day with that one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Wife loves ours, so would have a revolt if it went. Would slapping on a load of grease slow down or make the electrolysis worse?
