  3. but if you do cancel when ?

friends of mine drove up from Cornwall to make the show, because of the distance they took 2 days to get up there

they wouldn't of been happy to find after 2 days of driving the show cancelled

We really enjoyed meeting the TLB regulars and that made it bareable, apart from that it was like taking the kids to the fair in the rain at home, expensive and wet. We talked to a lot of the traders and felt bad for them, especially the charity pink Bay ice cream van that had his equipment fried by a power spike from the CJ generators :( They made nothing!

Next year will be better :)

  5. all they had to do was PAY for some roll out temp road on the main tracks hire a few land rovers and get event staff that had a clue
but that might of dented there profits IF we go next year it will be for the people not the event

  9. I also think it should have been. For us it had the hallmarks of an awful weekend, breaking down on way in and getting NO help from event staff, rain, mud and two kids, too muddy to look around the stalls, and waiting three hours for a tow truck home. BUT we still managed to enjoy it cos of the tlb ers. Having said that we could have done it so much cheaper somewhere else

  10. I agree, It should have been cancelled, from a trade point of view it was very annoying. People didn't have a clue, when you asked what was to be done about it, they looked at you like an alien like there wasn't a problem.

Then to see them put people that arrived on saturday morning on the show and shine field well!! Thanks a bunch.

My main issue with the show organisers is that if this had been freak weather that had came in the last few days I could understand no prepreation BUT and a BIG BUT, its been like this since the end of April 2 and a half months. They should have known it was going to be like this.
I spoke to people who had been there for v-fest and they said it was like it there so the land owner knows how muddy it must get. Surely.

Sunday was a waste of time too. surely apart from the show and shine the show was called off.

  11. They should have cancelled, looking at it objectively. However, I'm glad they didn't. I had a really nice time, and I got to drink and unwind for the first time in ages. If it had been cancelled, it would have just been another casualty of the show season, and we'd all be contributing to a thread called "Should Camperjam have gone ahead?"

I was also surprised that with all the recent weather, and the reports and amber weather warnings, that they didn't at least get some temporary road rolled out in the trade area. That stinks, and whatever the organisers reasons for not doing it, it will look to some people like they were penny pinching.

Yes bb your probably right , so to sum up - if cj had put some effort into making it bearable we would have been more inclined to think they at least tried , apart from that we did have a good time

I stayed on Sunday until about 4:30 and believe it or not almost everywhere was pretty well dried out so I can see the touch and go nature of the descision. If they'd cancelled and the weekend had been sunny - which it was all Sat morning and all Sunday peeps would have been moaning at that. Doesn't cost much more than a weekend camping anyway? I've stayed in regular camp sites that cost as much.
I wish it had been cancelled though, as PMACS says - I wouldn't have cut my finger.

  15. They couldn't put straw down because its pasture land and takes too long to recover, so why didn't they look at the alternatives.
Yes we would've been annoyed it being cancelled, but this isn't a small club organising an event its a big company with a number of magazines and shows under its belt, so they had no excuse in my eyes to get it wrong, especially as the weather has been like this for 2 months.

  18. Probably should have been cancelled, felt real sorry for all the traders as I think conditions up that end were much worse than Club Camping. Still made the most of it, drank too much, ate too much but had a good time.

  19. Your right woody, This is my 4th year now trading there, and every year its been an awesome show. All they needed to do was prepare for it. We have probably lost order's because of that too.

  20. I said to one of the organisers on Sunday morning that part of me thinks that yes, it really should have been cancelled - and it should have been done on Thursday.

My personal view (which again, I gave to the organiser lady) is that they (CJ) were very good indeed at giving updates in the run up to the show - until the point where the rains were due to begin and then it went very quiet and for me, that was the time when there should have been a LOT of communication. They kept telling us the weather wasnt too bad and the ground was OK, yet not only the weather reports but the news too, was full of detail of what was coming on that Friday. It wasn't a surprise. It had been forecast with amber alerts, well in advance.

So yes, I do think it should have been cancelled.

As a trader there, I felt terrible for the other traders who were in the truly awful conditions. We were very lucky in that we were put onto a very good, dry plot. Its not possible nor practical for us to go to a weekend show on a Thursday or even a Friday (with the exception of Busfest*) - we're still printing our show stock and packing it up for sale, on the Friday morning! So we always go to shows Saturday* and this time around, it really worked in our favour. What did not work in our favour - and same goes for ALL traders - is the lack of Sunday visitors. I think that Weston Park left it ridiculously late to pull that particular plug.

It was impossible to move too far from where we were so we hardly got to see anyone/anything over the 2 days but given the fact that it did go ahead, we thought that Camper Jam themselves made the very best out of a terrible situation.
