Selecting gears when engine running

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by salad.dodger2, Dec 8, 2012.

  1. I have recently had my bus restored, apart from paint. The engine/box was out and the engine rebuilt. Gearbox wasn't but is/was fine.

I have driven the bus 130 miles and the gears were hit and miss. 3 times I broke down. I adjusted the gears by loosening the 2 bolts at the bottom of the gear stick procedure and it is perfect when the engine is off.

BUT when I start the engine I cant select any gears 9 out of 10 times I try, also when going for reverse it crunches real bad.

Not sure what has happened, it was OK before the engine was taken out.

    Any ideas people.

    Thanks guys

  2. where is the bite point on the clutch pedal??

  7. Well, I have seen clutches bind up on the friction surfaces if they're left somewhere damp, but as snotty says, you ideally want the bite nearer the top
