Have to say I was pleased with the paint - I spent an age trying to sort the poptop - stripped it back no problems but wanted something long lasting and just never got the weather/time to do it, Zed said 2 pac and be done, so I went down that route. I also needed welding on the steel roof and the gutters sorting - so they did all that and replaced some of the window aperature holes too all at the same time.

I'll get some pics on when I fetch it back on the weekend.

When are you booked in for the engine change?

  2. I'm going down the scooby route myself but currently still doing the bodywork on the van (3rd year), so just collecting parts for the conversion at the moment
The main driver for me on doing the conversion is cos i fancy having a scooby engined bus, if i was concerned by cost/money, mpg etc i'd would have bought a bus in the first place
it's all about dreams and memories, for me building and the wife & kids (if they haven't got kids of their own by the time it's finished) having holidays in the bus

I have a got stripped impreza in the garage at the moment waiting for me to pull and engine and loom out
Cost wise i'm in the black at the moment
The impreza cost £500 with tax and mot, currently recouped about £300 on selling parts off the impreza
Sold my old 1600 enginefor £450
Sold my old golf for £300
So i'm about £550 to the good, with will help towards all the other stuff needed to do the conversion

I going to do the conversion myself, using parts produced by fellows that are beyond my skills to fabricate etc, and self sourced parts to try and keep costs down the best i can

    It certainly look smart now!
Booked in for 30th August which is later than I'd expected. Hopefully it'll come forward a bit or I'll be at Techenders in a tent!

They are busy boys - I'll not be using anyone else from here on in that's for sure.

  5. you buy an air cooled, stay air cooled

    Really?
I've only got a 5 rib from an 1800 unfortunately.
There's also the fact that its even more overkill than the stock n/a 2 litre lump!

Tend to lean this way myself but can't help thinking that vw would probably have liked the scooby conversion themselves had it been available back then ?

    Each to their own :)

I take it you're still running on leaded and crossplys, maybe 8 trac or no radio at all?

I salute you on those choices!

Yes, which is why they haven't made one for 30 years.

Which is why no ones made one for 30 years in cars.

    Progress old fruit, progress!!

Modern engine conversions are growing in most areas of the classic car scene....
