  1. Thanks. Makes sense about the edges being held by the edging strip. It can only be glued across the transverse bars (which may explain the faint lines across) but your board must be a lot lighter than my ply - I wouldn't want that glued above my head lol! I think I will have to speak to @Diddymen and see if he has any suggestions.

I think it's same as mine which has a lot of metal clips hiding under the edging strip that clip it to the ali frame. It's not glued anywhere, the feint stripes will be where it's touched the ali frame above.

  3. Thanks Zed. So are the clips just around the edges. Would think gravity would cause it to sag in the middle! Do you happen to know what the board is and approx thickness. Cheers:)

No board, just the headlining material.

  5. So just pulled taut and then held in place by the clips. Sounds good. Might need to sort the POs insulation out or it will be laying on the head lining!

I think some of mine does that but it feels like very lightweight polystyrene. One day I'll take it off and replace with something interesting rather than plain white. @the 3 crispies had his apart recently and replaced the insulation.

  7. My insulation is just white polystyrene! Did think I might replace it with some celotex I have left over from when we built our extension!

  8. Most of the Devon poptops had perforated vinyl headlining same as the cab roof, it is just held taught with the clips as zed said, but also the skylight surround helps fix the middle section. if it is pulled taught and held with the clips it wont be a problem. The bellows and straps then fix over the same edging as the headliner, held in place with more clips and then the clips are hidden from the outside with 'U' shaped trim.

....I'm not sure how the ply liners are held in place, presumably in a similar fashion?

  14. I have a cap over original roof and skylight never re fitted! The ply is screwed up with self tappers through the Ali cross bars. So presume not OG as post cap fitting!

  15. I was on about the headlining material which is glued to the board. Obviously all my thinking is guessing cause its never been off.........yet.

Interesting read though, cheers guys. I need to go read all the Devon resto now. Not that I will be doing my roof I don't think. Seems pretty hard and intricate?

It would appear that there shouldn't be a board? Maybe this is why some peoples roofs don't like to stay up without a prop, I'm thinking of @Barneyrubble here who props his up - have you got ply in your poptop headlining Barney?

  17. My Devon had the original vinyl on the inside of the pop top. It was split and broken but nevertheless there. The original fitment is polystyrene sheet glued to the underside of the roof; vinyl stretched over the frame and held with metal clips. I bought new white vinyl from Woolies and new high spec self adhesive insulation foam to fix under the roof. I fixed the vinyl by re-using the old clips. I also fitted a new Fiamma roof light. photostudio_1449655512761.jpg
