rustoleum, any advice on how best to use it?

  1. Many people have used enamel paint on fibreglass to good effect

It's all in the prep as is with any type of painting

  2. I did mine in Tekaloid, which I believe is the same type of paint as Rustoleum. I rolled it on over 8 years ago and it still looks good.

My roof had been really filthy and I tried all sorts to clean it, to no avail. In the end I sanded it smooth, though it still looked dirty, and gave it two coats. Take care to clean off after sanding or the finish will be gritty.

  3. All, thanks for the advice. I don't think I will ever find a full how to guide with this type of paint it will just be down to practicing. I tried using it with no thinner and the results are bad lots of runs and sags in the paint.

    I took snottys advice
it brush painted really nice and was dry enough to handle within in day and looks great. photos don't do it justice really.

  4. Lovely. If you're brushing, use a good brush. If Rusto's thinned a bit so it flows better, brush marks disappear

In my experience, it can take up to say a month to harden properly. Once it's gone off, it's quite robust.

  5. Use a synthetic enamel thinners which evaporates quicker usually before the paint has skinned over in preference to white spirit which can be trapped once the paint has skinned over, (acetone can attack the previous coat causing wrinkling) enamels need to be applied in dry air conditions, humid air can considerably lengthen the drying time especially when sprayed.
