Doesn't sound too bad to me either - petrol problem though - I agree with Jokers old petrol suggestion. Has there been much old petrol sat in it? If not much I drain it out and start again. If you leave it in there, the more there is, the more fresh you'll need to freshen it up.

If it won't tick over, but ok at speed - idle jet/circuit.
If it ticks over ok but won't rev its starved main jets or generally carb starved of petrol.
If it won't rev up unless you do it gradually - accelerator pump.
If you speed it up and it's ok for a few seconds before spluttering the float chamber is emptying faster than it's filling - pump/float valve.
    Logic really.

Generally gunked up gets my vote even if you've already cleaned it once.

Gosh what a journey so far , i'd forgotten how it all began then i reread this thread and remembered , i remember the relatively easy resto on my t25 and my subsequent purchase of my dream westy , the trip to Hook and the beautiful lady with the semi exposed breasts that flogged me a red n white rust bucket that i thought was a steal , i remembered the laughing driver that brought her to my house on the back of his breakdown truck - gosh it seems so long ago that sunny day .

i cringe when i think about the slider sill being welded on the wrong side and the day paradox came and showed me the true extent of my faux pau , again that all seems so long ago .

There have been good moments though , doing the slider door was pure bliss , i took my time and studied up before attacking it with my now defunct bosch angle grinder , it is'nt perfect but i was i pleased with my first attempt at reskinning the bottom of a slider door , i sort of enjoyed refurbing the cab area , the po had painted the hole area with a black bitumen type paint that crystalised and came off in great piles of dusty chippings but after a little rubbing down the white paint went back on nicely , same with the hand painted dashboard , he really did make a mess of that , but a couple of days with my trusty scraper soon had her ship shape and Bristol fashion ( kinda ) , The rear torsion beam nearly caused me to cave in but i had a good cry , whinged a bit , cried a little more then found the reserve of strength one keeps for these occasions and got it sorted , tbh the refurb of the seats gave me the impetus to get the thing back on the road , funny how something as simple as nice seats rekindles yer ardour , oh and Bryan the welders perseverence helped too .

It just goes to show really , i mean i am by no means a knowledgable mechanic and even less of a welder , in [glow=red,2,300][glow=red,2,300][glow=red,2,300]FACT[/glow][/glow][/glow] i am probably the worlds worst welder but i have nearly managed to save another westy from vw heaven , so if i can do it then others can have a go -

ok ok i hear you ,i have'nt mot'ed her yet or sorted out the running problems but i will , it might still prove more difficult than i think but i have now learned i have the drive to get over problems when the chips are down , so finger crossed in a week or so i will have the paper that says - you did alright son !.

i never intended this post or my resto to be this long winded :-[

Well i have had a busy couple of weeks over the christmas period preparing Rhubarb for the mot , i worked to my list as i intended and managed to slowly whittle it down to a a bit of painting and the ball joint gaiters .

The day before yesterday i set about doing the gaiters i had nightmare getting the nuts off , heat , bar and chisel but eventually i losened them off and was able to change the gaiters , at the same time i decided to clean up the trailing arms ala paradox ( but not quite as good ) and try and make the beam look presentable , i finally replaced the gaiters and got it all back together late last night , i finished painting the underside this afternoon .

So , i suppose she's ready for the mot , i have to say i'm a bit dubious about the standard of welding in places , i'm a litttle concerned about the front beam and its peripherals ,but happy enough with everything else .

i can't get her in until next week and i will probably go through every emotion in the meantime , i know get it in and deal with it after -

It can't possibly fail on anything that you won't easily crack in time for a re-test. Even if it fails, working through the fail list will seem a joy - knowing as you will that when this simple list is acomplished, you're home and dry. I love MOT fail lists - I'd be disappointed if mine passed. :)
