  1. Don't think its to recent by the look of it, going to have a poke about and see whats what and test it all to see if it is a regulator issue, if its an earlier type (which i think it is as i can't see the access plate ) and i have to pull it out i might think about swapping over for a replacement one so its new.

Is it a straight swap to fit the later type alternator if an earlier type alternator is currently fitted?

    Thanks

  2. No orange wheels do that :theforce:

    Dunno.

Can you not just have it refurbished locally?

  5. I will just exchange it, or buy one at Gsf, just wondered if i could get the later one with the more accessible/changeable regulator .

Or chuck the one on off my bug maybe

  6. have you sprayed your wheels?

  7. Robs @minirob doin his wheels orange with an orange side stripe and orange bumper stripes, I've got orange shocks and orange callipers. I got some spray if you wanna join the club

  8. If it's a later alt, it's a half-hour job to change the regulator.

  9. Yeah cool, i read some bits you wrote on the link someone posted, very helpful thanks, i took the one out my bug just to be nosey so i can do that bit, but this looks like its just the brushes on top and regulator round the back i think, going to look later.

  10. Ok, been out this is the one i have

Is the regulator under that large cover on the top like the late ones and can i replace it as easy?

Would anyone recommend this type over using the late type, like this one

    Thanks Guys

  11. Take the cover off and see what you have
It may be brushes and the regulator it may just be the brushes
Does it have a bosch sticker on the alternator?

I recommend the bottom one because its a much nicer colour than the other one.

  13. This is why i ask for help from grown ups, because sometimes i make decisions based on things like this, i own loads of shinny things that don't work :D

    Does look better

  14. I can get the same one as already fitted, on exchange for around a hundred

  19. Over an hour into this so far, the screws are seized in the top of the alternator cover and won't come out, sitting looking at my carb dripping petrol :(

  20. Done all my tests

    Battery had 12.59v
When running had 14v which intermittently jumped to 17v - 18v
When off showed 14v and hissing

Got it off after a battle :)

It says Bosch on it and the regulator and brushes are all together
