I noticed the other day that the reverse lights on my '79 camper did not come on when Mrs. Buttercup was reversing onto the drive. On opening the clusters, I discovered that not only were there no bulbs, but nothing to put bulbs into. Is this normal?
Reverse lights were an optional extra Justkampers do a reverse light kit if you want to fit them Oh and theres no such thing as a silly question only a silly person that wont ask questions
yes ,that is the way they come from the factory, seriously ,you expected fittings /bulbs ? really ? whatever next ,wiring?
Dont get the JK kit The gearbox switch is pants, the last one i fitted stopped you from getting reverse the plunger was to long, was lose in the body and had a square end instead of a rounded end.
They sent the wrong one by the sounds of it? I got their kit and it fitted no issues. Nice to use proper reversing lights rather than the old school hazards (I still do on the Beetle though)
this switch looks better http://www.vwheritage.com/vw_spares...untry_GB.htm?crumbStartPage=1&crumbStartRow=1
Im going to buy the switch and make the rest up myself Instead of using normal bulbs im going to fit cree leds That should be like instant daylight behind me
I got the JK kit and fitted it no problems. Makes reversing up our narrow drive a bit more tolerable.
theres a black wire under the shifter which becomes live when in reverse (if your connections on the inhibitor are good) the wire is (or was on mine) in the loom by the lights at the rear but not connected, there is no mechanical switch on an auto it's electrical.
Mine has the bulbs / fittings and wire leading from nearside light to inline fuse then to nowhere. I think I need to look at getting one of those switches to connect it up
my 76 was the same - i only noticed it when she was being reversed the garage for her service and the guys wired her up in ten minutes
If reversing lights are not fitted as standard (ie no bulbs or holders) they its fine, but if they are fitted they must work or it will fail the MOT
