Red 9 Design front beam

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by pkrboo, Aug 3, 2015.

  1. Anyone have a red 9 front beam setup one here?

    What is the minimum you can lower it? As in can you have it at stock height or is a 3 inch drop the tallest it will be?

    @rob.e ??

  2. Not me dude, I wanted one but couldn't really afford it - think you're right though, min is 3" drop.

    @Lime79 has one :thumbsup:

  3. I too would like one but the cost.. Ouch.

    I know someone who has one on his Earlygay and he is well impressed with it.

  4. The way I see it is this, new steering box £270,litesteer electric power steering, £995, sell my beam and drop spindles, £300-£400? And it soon evens out, sort of......(this is how I plan to sell it to the wife)

  5. What.... Your selling the wife to buy vw parts. Shame on you!

    Won't your mrs then be expecting power steering?

  7. Nah I can sell it as the rack and pinion being a better option than the power steering.

    get a bongo.

  9. You can leave.

    I want steering that doesn't make me poo myself every time there is a gust of wind. Here in Lincolnshire its very flat and driving along every gap in the hedges is a gamble!!

    When it isn't windy its manageable but with the puck on the back it makes it even more important that I have spot steering and I think this may be the way to get it.

  10. There's a few people on earlybay with them and they seem very impressed, worth asking the question over there. I think they have had some issues with bevel boxes but may be resolved now.

    Perhaps consider moving from the flat lands. I have the same trouble, we used to go on our hols for 2 weeks and I got quite relaxed driving until we got back to East Anglia and back to being blown off the road.

    They started off with a great reputation then it all went a bit south when they changed the bevel box they used.

    yeah mine was fun on the way to skeg a few times, mind you i hardly went over 25mph due to being stuck behing tractors full of bleedin cabbages...........

  14. I've been reading on e@rly Bay and it looks like they have changed to a different bevel box now, one made by pailton?

  15. .....or "bus" as we call them in the rest of the country!

    No idea; I just know a lot of people got really *******ed off with them failing, and it seemed a bit touch and go as to whether or not they sorted it for you.
    For the money I'd want absolutely tip-top customer service.

  18. Yup - I've got one. Minimum drop is 3" which I'm happy with. I don't get the wind buffeting me at motorway speeds and I've not had to replace my underwear drawer contents since it's been installed ;-)
    Not sure what the bevel box is??
    I did all the cost calculations and felt that the Red9 set up came in more or less the same as the dropped spindles/upgraded beam/etc. I'd also taken into account that I'd be fitting a set of Porsche 944 Rotors/calipers and the subsequent sale on of the T2D dropped beam and standard disc brake set up. My local VW servicing guy swears it's the best handling bus he's driven....

    After fixing the tracking , refitting the link pin, and refilling and readjusting the steering box on mine, it made me realise how much of the wind steering effect is down to crap steering setup and worn parts. Not so much the vehicle.
