Recon engine oil pressure problem

aka homemade VW 'Special tool'....I've got a boxful of similarly handcrafted gems, rusting slowly in my garage

(not very exciting really, but a bit of cloak and dagger makes it all seem more intriguing)

Impact driver is what I use... you know the chisel type thing that you smack with a hammer!!

 

Does beg the question...do folk who fit fancy uprated oil pumps change the spring in the front relief valve? Would've thought if they don't, any extra oil pressure would be dumped straight back into the crankcase, making it all a bit pointless...

 

And if you fit the fancy upgrade spring, the normal pump will technically produce more pressure...

But if you need to increase the oil pressure, you should be looking at why you have low pressure in the first place!!

 

I've never really understood why folk fit fancy uprated oil pumps...

 

The hope is the oil goes round faster and therefore cools better.
