You can't repair the whole tub using another arch just the lip, once you cut off the outer it's pretty straight forward

    cool, cheers guys!

  5. I normally just fold a length of sheet steel... cheaper than using an arch

also, does the arch attach to it, or is there just a lovely gap for water to get into?

  9. also, if you have another look at the pic I posted, you'll see 4 plastic bungs... pop those out before you weld the new outer skin on, then once you're all welded up and ground back, you can spray some cavity wax in the holes, and pop the bungs back in 8)

  10. I never got around to doing mine

But i sent two outer arch repair panels up with my bus so paul can weld them in place

Its about time someone made half the rear tub as repair sections as the full tubs are expensive and its rare the whole tub is needed

I did the full tubs on mine, after the van was blasted both top sections of the tubs were peppered with pin holes, the flap on the rear edge was rotten the arch was gone and the usual bit on the inside as it goes down to the floor was shot, and the edge of the floor where it attached to the tub was rotten..

each area could have been fixed but the time required and the effort to have a patched up part didnt add up so drilled out all the spot welds, pulled out the tub and fitted a new one I think they were around £80 each for the genuine VW parts.. took two hours to cut out and and dress up and 30 mins to set it up and weld it in place. the other side with the spare wheel recess was a bitch to remove.. anymore than a local repair its probably best to fit a new panel, or is that just me?

    Your right,

with more available time I would have made suitable repair sections, Im fortunate to have some fancy machines that help with the fabrication of all sorts of panels, but sometimes its a toss up between buying ready made and cracking on or taking a wee while to do the required fabrication and welding in place.. Its interesting what you say about replacement sections for the inner tub arch... I could tool up for stuff like that ?

Your also right about the panel fit, pretty much everything except the VW / Audi labelled parts need some adjustment, the UK made parts seem to be more accurate but the usual ones are pretty average but 1000 times better than nothing. ;)

if i had the £80 i'd spend it, believe me, but i'm skint so i'm patching it up
