Discussion in 'Late Bay Parts Classifieds' started by Robert Thomas, Jan 8, 2016.

  1. Having tasted the difference a pair of front gas shocks have made to the ride of my bus I want to swap out the rears. What have you gorgeous folk got for me?

  2. I can't believe you're all so mean that you're not going to share

  3. Buy some Boge ones from GSF.

    35% off this weekend!

  4. That's what I've got but they're not gas and you know what they say............"once you've gone gas you'll never go back!"

  5. hmmm this could be my excuse to upgrade to Koni shocks on the back

  6. Are they much better?

You want new or second hand?

  8. I won't lie Andy me ol' mucca, my bus is the work of a fuss tastic ocd ridden loonie and was pretty sweet save for a little shimmy at speed (motorway cross winds etc) and a double bounce over speed hump city which is my home town.
All I've done is swap out my near new standard shocks (always best quality darling) for some manky old SH ones and it's honestly transformed it!
Today a 70mph motorway slog in proper foul wether lorries and the like and its near rock steady. Less roll in corners but still the "vdub ride"
My only regret is not doing the swap out years ago, if it wasn't for the deal on here for these I'd still be in the dark and bouncing

  9. Do the rite thing and let me contribute to your expenditure

  10. I want @pkrboo 's Red 9 Design setup.

But I just cant quite justify it! :(

  11. Manky old SH ones!!!

  12. I've got a way for you to redeem yourself upgrade!

So you're after the Gas-a-Just std height rears from KYB then @Robert Thomas

They compliment the GR2/Excel G's and are the biz on a fully loaded Westy.
I haven't got any, but we are buying new all round for the coming season. Had that set up for 7 years & 30K miles:D

  14. What's the "-a-just" bit all about? I'm more a "-fit-forget" type of owner
I was hoping to pick up a pair off here akin to the blinder of a deal I got from pkrboo.
Any one know the code for discount from VWH? and I'll bang an order in.
Just about to bang in an order for 4 Michelin Agillis tyres today once they're on I'll have tracking etc checked then that'll be all drive train tip top.

@pkrboo just as an aside were those fronts standard?

Why the gas a just and not the same as I have on front? VWH list them for the rear.

No adjustment necessary or possible on the misleadingly named Gas-a-Just. They are fit & forget & are built differently to the fronts to take account of the different forces experienced on the rear.
The GaJ rear/GR2 front is a complimentary pairing for the T2 transporter & work well on the late Westy with all the heavy camping interior & other stuff we manage to cram in.
I'm sure @Razzyh had a pair for sale recently?

  16. Morning, that's a good simple answer. Stupid marketing.
Now whilst you're in a giving info mood, why do VWH do two gas shocks for the rear? £39 and £52

  17. The silver ones are little more forgiving than the white ones

I have white ones on the rear as they are stiffer and cope with the extra weight of a westy better

The silver ones on the front were to stop the ride being harsh but also firm it up

Looking at the extension sizes Robert I assume it's so owners can choose a shock if they have non-standard ride height.
The excel g's are shorter than the g-a-J.
These are the size ones you want for a std bus

  19. That's it then, perfect. You going to sell me yours pkrboo or am I ordering?oh yeh if I'm ordering what's the VWH discount code?
