    Newbie after some pointers

My bus has a 4in narrowed beam and 2 1/2 drop spindles. Looking at the beam it on its highest setting but too low for my camping trips planned this year.

Is it just a case of me buying some std spindles to raise it back up the 2 1/2 inches. My thought is I can lower it a little on the beam, should I wish. Or am I completely wrong.

You can replace the dropped spindle and torsion arms to go back to stock height, then use the adjuster to lower to your requirements, on
The rear, if you don't have adjustable spring plates is simple to do by removing the plates and rotating them

    Loverly thanks.

Any special tools needed to swap over. Mines a 72 crossover, am I right in thinking I'll need early spec parts.

if its not the upside down ball joint type would you need to change the arms?

Not if its the French slammer type.

Just a ball joint splitter tool wise. What spec parts you need depend on what calipers / disc you have at the moment. (unless you are going to change the lot, in which case you might as well just use whatever is most readily available, which is likely late bay parts)

I have a type 2 detectives front beam.

Just checked the paperwork and the rear end has adjustable spring plates.

just makes raising it and getting it level a bit easier, i would imagine you will sill need to rotate them to get your required height.

  9. Your avatar looks more than 2.5 inch drop ...the parts you have are worth a few quid ...don't swop or give them away

  10. I'm after some dropped spindles so please bear me in mind if you sell
    Thanks

defo 2.5 just the camera angle I think. I'll be keeping the parts for now in case I change my mind.

  13. you might try some air shocks on the front maybe a simpler alternative. search on gabriel and you'll find some threads. just bolt on, add some air and you'll have an inch or two lift.

    02 etc.

Getting a little confused are the gabriels used in conjunction with my existing shocks? I can't find much info on the subject and suppliers seem to be US based. I like the idea of this though, raised for family holidays and back down for cruising

  16. they are a replacement for your std shock. i think monroe also do something similar. might be more info on earlybay than here. i've not got these as my drop is pretty mild, but like you i think it might be a good compromise as you say, can be raised for hols etc.

Ok not sure on the air ride. Some mixed reviews out there, and as I'm on a budget probably sticking to changing the spindles over to std.

Could anyone confirm if I have the early or later type fitted off these pics as I haven't a clue. Thanks !!

I think the only differance between the years is the brake calipers (someone correct me if im wrong!) 73 - 79 brake calipers measure 55mm across the gap where the pads go, earlier ones where narrower. If yours are 55mm, I think I have a pair of standard spindles for them somewhere if you are interested.
