..the storys i got rid of my beetle as it was beyond repair..in fact even the chassis was sooo rotten out there was no point..thought ok ill get a new car for my wife as her old audi isnt in good nick too..also im really fed up of rust repairing and all that mess on the drive..been looking for some cheapish car for a while..but nothing interesting..so wait a socond thought..we always loved mini..we can afford one as replacement for my bug!..so been looking viewing..always something..spot rust on the body or oily engine or worn interior..or all of them..yes i know they old now so been looking for best one i can find but always can go on compromise..so this one came up not too far in the budget..67kmiles fsh very clean on the in/outside..drives great..perfect roof..my wife loved it at the first sight..so we got it..but my hapiness lasted for a day we bought it..next day thought get it up have a proper look what eventually needs replacing rustproofing etc..and found this..like im saying i do relise its 12 years old car but come on.have had many cars in the past but never ever seen something like it..even on my bus/bugs cars from 80/90s i had before never found such a rust perforation!..its probobly still solid but for how long?..is it safe?..what about mot?..its for my wife/kids transporting.kids keep asking me dad when we can have a ride in it?..gee i feel guilty maybe was to picky?..im embarassed too now another piece of scrap on the driveway..r the modern cars really like that these days?..i know thin steel thin paint thin rustproofing if any?..what would u do with it?..pls b polite

My ten year old Morris Marina I bought in 1985 with about 60k miles on the clock for £100 was similar. I learnt how to make sills look good with filler on that. Not really any holes in the top but loads underneath.

I dont think BMW try as hard on body work as they do on marketing the image.

The galvanised heavy bodywork on my 125k mile 04 Peugeot 307 is only showing rust spots in corners.. But some of the painted steel pressings like the wheels look pretty rough.

  10. Bad news :(

Was this a private sale or from a dealer?

  11. Tbh you can change the pipes and shocks and it's ready to roll....:D

Think you may find its been sat in a river or caught up in one of the floods, even at that age the underneath should look better than that.
Massive lesson to us all proper check before purchase needed regardless of what your buying.
Don't beat yourself up about it most of us have been caught out before its just not nice when it happens :(

  13. I guess the one good thing is that if you are used to keeping a bug on the road then there shouldn't be too much there that you can't tackle in stages.

Also there's tons of these in scrap yards so parts will be easily available and cheap. At least you will have a plentiful supply of original parts and not having to rely on poorly fitting repro parts for once.

Hopefully in the end you'll end up with a decent motor. I can't see it passing an MOT anytime soon
