After years of trying and failing...including GP counselling groups and CO2 tests and all that I am currently 8 months 3 weeks and three days without a fag. I am bloody delighted and really quite proud of myself. The wife, whose never had a fag in her life is delighted and so are my kids. Mind you, if I'd still been smoking I probably wouldn't have had my hissy fit on here the other day! ;D Jx PS I used patches for two weeks, half patches for a week (plus gum if it got bad) then gum on its own for about another week or two. The main key was to reach for the gum not the fags when the going got tough. Driving was my worst time, and down the pub, and out walking, and sitting watching telly, and gardening, and down the lotty, and lunchtimes, teatimes, breakfast and suppertime. All the rest of the time I was fine...oh, except after sex, but that's not too often these days so I could handle that...so to speak. ;D Good luck to anyone who is giving up. It's worth it.
Must admit, whilst I have a degree of sympathy for those who struggle to give up, it is only a degree. After a 30/40 a day habit (depending on what was happening in the evenings) I just decided one day enough was enough and gave up. That was 15 years ago and I still don't smoke. I'll admit I don't get why people can't stop as I had no problem with it. It's like people who struggle with weight. Just don't eat as much, and for both eating and smoking, exercise more.
That's what I found. Around four weeks the whole craving thing just melted away and now I can't believe I ever smoked, and I'd been at it over 40 years. :-[ I can't bear the stuff now...even watching people smoke makes me feel sorry for them and wonder what on earth I was up to. ;D Jx
ive been almost hospitalised this week so thats made me not smoke i couldnt eat or drink tea!!!! and wasnt able to get outside to smoke so...i guess ive given up tried a bit of one earlier and everything tastes of penicillin atm so its too grosss...so ill be joining the i dont smoke anymore corner ...arent you supposed to get some great sex instead?
Some find it easier than others, after 30 years of smoking, I found it hard, I would say it's the hardest thing I have ever done, I now feel I have given up after 2 years of stopping and that was about my 10th attempt, but I got there in the end. (I hope)
I've a mate who used the nicorette gum as a replacement to help him give up smoking. Trouble is although he's stopped smoking, he's now addicted to the gum and spends more on that than he did on the cigs. Daft.
ive definately quit as today day 5 of being so sick i actually feel slightly better and managed to sleep more than ive done all week and not wake up feeling crap.. everything now tastes of penicillin...tea cigarettes food...ugh nasty so yep im free of ciggies finished a third of one this morning and felt quite sick with it so guess penicillin cured me lol...and i gave up in 1985 until i left my ex before so this is my second time feel kind of enlightened and im sure will feel much better in a few weeks time once ive beaten this weils disease or whatever it is lol...maybe we should have a tlb my bus doesnt smoke sticker
everytime my ex would be nasty to me i wanted to smoke lol......so that happened quite a few times otherwise i was fine i didnt like the smell in a restaurant even when i did smoke and ate always put me off eating id never eat and then smoke there id go outside even in the 80s lol
