I should hope so, because I know I'm right. They do get stuck sometimes. The drum has to be a very close fit in the hub to ensure it's centred, rust or paint as you say can stick it on. Needs a lot of tapping sometimes to shock it loose.
Thanks mate. Only ever removed rear hubs on my beetles and they were always a single casting? Bugger i really am having a bad day today. Damn it wasted the day. Never mind it will be sorted Thursday and I get to keep some skin on my hands. Time to give up these old bangers me thinks and buy a T5!
The reason it is so tight isn't to keep the wheel on or stop the seal leaking. It is to stop torque being transmitted directly to the stub axel splines, if you don't tighten it up correctly the splines take all the drive and one day you'll put your foot down and the axle will spin in the hub ruining both and leaving you stranded. Edit. Just noticed snotty said this earlier, apologies.
Have you been smoking dictionary pages again zed Vehemently sounds like one of those made up words they use on countdown
Wow 3 pages on Hub nuts! Right after work, no doubt in the dark tonight I will have to jack the bugger up wipe the wheel off and see for myself! Many thanks for all your help and advice everyone

I was just backing you up when I posted, to ensure the OP took your sound advice. The arch arrived, thanks.
Yes - happy with the price. I didn't think you'd want your punters to know you sold stuff cheap sometimes...
Now just to confirm there are bargains for best quality parts and bargains for Cheap Tatt? Which ones do you offer? Taiwanese EMPI junk or Chinese best quality repro?
