question about the legality of pressed plates?

  1. heya guys. i have a 1975 devon bay. and i wanted some of those nice vintage looking black and silver pressed licence plates.

but i saw on 1 website that these are only legal on cars that are pre 1973.

    is this true?

i googled it some more after but couldnt find any other sites that say the same.

if they arent legal, i suppose i have to stick to the yellow and white type?

    carl.

It is true that they are illegal for post 73 cars. But try them anyway - I bet no one pulls you up (or over) about it.

  3. Dont get the black and silver ones as it upsets Ricky :)

    Each to their own.

Whether it’s lowered, alloy wheels, stickers, name stencilling, rear safari windows, jail bars, lhd, etc, etc, None of these would have been applied to original UK vans in the 70s but they’re all on here now plus more besides.

If you like them, use them. Unlikely that you’ll be stopped but if you are, then plead ignorance and agree to change them. Unless you’re in deepest Norfolk, it’s unlikely to be the most serious crime of the day! ;)

I've got the modern white/yellow ones on my 68 - they were just coming in then as an option.

The reason I chose them is because it seems to drive a large proportion of the prototype bay lot nuts.

i like them on the correct age, i had them on my 69 landy but i just don't like them on a 76 (example) van.

yeah like zed says, my 69 landy actually had white/yellow originals on but i retro fitted black/silver

It looks a lot better with none at all, but that's more tricky to get away with.
I think they compliment the light coloured bumper. :)
