When did fuel filler flaps change to caps, I'm looking at buses and ive seen a high light 72 on a k plate with a cap, but i thought the high light 72s had flaps Just thought id check before going further
Yeah its wrong it should have a fuel flap and the sliding door handle is wrong, its not what it seems
These buses are nigh on 40 years old and have probably had numerous repairs done to them. Doors will have been replaced (looks like 1 early slider, 1 late to me) and panels will have been repaired (ie around the filler maybe). Have a look at it, it may be fine. Check all the numbers and paperwork etc. If everyone listened to the tinfoil hat brigade, no-one would ever buy a bus again! All imho of course.
Yes of course, I'm not worried about repairs and changes made if you think thats all it is I'm no purist I just get nervous when people think its a different bus or body, and i quite like this one
:yeah that: The left door is off a bus the right is off a converted panel van, they are hard to get though so maybe he got what he could. Check things like the cab door hinges etc as post 76 are bolts not countersunk see how late it might be . Try and find someone in the know to go with you. You need to know the variations such as different indicator stalk years, hinges, bla bla If they are all wrong then its wrong and walk away
eBay feedback when talking about buying a vehicle though is irrelevant to be fair. Anyone who doesn't go and inspect it before bidding, and agree cash on collection is a mug so there shouldn't be any way he could fail to deliver the goods so to speak.
It's defo not a '72, the only early bit is the left side sliding door with factory window, the others are panelvan windows. The petrol cap without flap started with the '74 year, it also looks like it might have the late engine lid hinges which means it could be '77 onwards, it's certainly got the black handles on the hatch and lid which started around then also. Call me a tin-foil hat wearer if you like but it's better to warn people of obvious ringers imho.
Key question - if it's a k plate, legitimate one at that, why has it got a 76 onwards engine hatch fitted?
