  1. might be a idea to write a list of things you need ,from important, to things you like....

For instance, I had a petrol cap with key, but was hanging on to see if you wanted something else like headlights etc...

Yeah I might just do that mate. So far out of the important things missing list i have got hold of petrol tank, tailgate lock, front bumper, driveshafts, gearbox and an engine to rebuild.

Things I still need, in some order of importance but possibilities in second hand market -

Engine - but that is in progress
Type 4 engine mount & bolts
    Type4 heat exchangers
Starter motor for 3 rib box
    Type4 exhaust - for 2000cc
Set of carbs - not sure twin or single but awaiting advice
Clutch - whatever that is lol
Headlights UK spec - or some sticky tape/deflectors if it gets difficult.
Set of allen bolts for both ends of both driveshafts.
    Gear stick

That's it for.now I'm sure I will think of more. They are the important bits as far as i can see.
I do need ancillaries for the engine but at the moment I have petrol pump, oil cooler, alternator, coil.

  4. Headlights are easy.. Mk1 golf are a direct swap... gives you a proper H4 bulb too ;)

i've got a full set of hx's and exhaust but it's oval heads and triangular outputs, no risers on the hx's to feed the snail fan and no output risers to the pods though, or i have a set of j-tubes if you didn't want heat.

I got the engine on Saturday, looks pretty good so far, and just waiting on the manifolds then i can put it all together and hopefully get a test done within a week or however long it takes to get it together. Think a linkage on the carbs has a bent connection/adjuster, so i need to change that part out, i think it will probably snap when i bend it back it is on the threaded part. Heat exchangers look pretty good, couple of niggles but nothing major. The fan housing has the flaps missing, but i have them on the other engine which i could transfer, but im not sure how they are supposed to look/work/sit so need to research that a bit. Exhaust is like new, good VW silencer. Not sure if all of the tinware is there, but there is a big pile of it so i am hopeful and will have a check through. The two carbs that came with it look in good shape, although the choke looks a bit dirty on the outside, i poked it open and the insides look good and clean as i hoped. The ports for the manifolds on the heads are stuffed with paper so looks like they will be clear of dust/debris. Just needs an oil change, although the dipstick had clean oil on the end, there wasn't much of it. Cleaned all of the obvious crud off the case today and took some pics. Still going to rebuild as much of the other engine as i can, just so i know all about them and then thats that in the memory bank.

For better answers stick it on tech...
